GEORGE H. 'WALDO, OF PBATTSBURG, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH-BOILER ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,940,1lated November 12, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen H. WALDO, of Prattsburg, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Wash-Boiler Attachments, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in the construction of an apparatus or attachment to be placed within a common wash-boiler, and used in connection therewith for the purpose of washing and bleaching clothing.
Decor-212M072 of the Accompany mg Draw-mg.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of the washer in a boiler, showing short tubes. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the washer, showing the top and band. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section.
General Description.
Fig. 1-1, 2 2, and 3 is a common wash-boiler; A, B, C, D, H, J, and K, the washer or attachment. Fig. 2-A, B, and (3 represent movable false bottoms or plates, A and B attached to and supported by the band K K, whichrests upon the bottom of the boiler. The plateAis of a size and shape corresponding with the inside of the boiler, and which is perforated with numerous holes to admit of the passage of water through them. The middle plate B is of a size and shape correspond ing with the inside of the band K K, and which has at and near the center one or more holes, D, to admit the passage of waterinto the parachute formed by plate 0. The sectional plate 0 is attached to plate B in such a manner as to form a longitudinal parachute about one-third the width of plate B, and opening at the short tubes J J, Fig. 1. This arrangement, as will be seen, constitutes a threefold false bottom, composed of the perforated plate A, the middle plate B, and the sectional plate 0, separated from each other,
and having spaces perpendicularly between them. From each end of the perforated plate A, and passing through it, rises a tapering" pipe or tube, H H, wider at the bottom and bent inward at the top, for the purpose of conveying the hot suds forced by the action of the steam from below to the space above the perforated plate, pouring it upon the clothing, which is placed upon the top of said perforated plate. From each end of the middle plate B, and passing through it, rises a smaller tube, J J, and extending upward into the tubes H H, for the purpose of conducting the steam and suds from the lower chamber or steamgenerator into the tubes H H.
The operation of the middle plate B is to force a large portion of the suds directly into the upright tubes H H, while the remainder passes into the parachute through the hole or holes D formed by the plate 0, and carried directly to the opening of the short tubes J J, where, by the action of steam, it is forced into the upright tubes H H, through which it rises, and being poured upon the clothes passes through them and downward through the perforated plate, to be again operated upon by the steam.
Having thus freely described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a threefold false bottom formed of the perforated plate A, plate B, seetional plate 0, with the band K K, and the short tubes J J with the tapering tubes H H, substantially as and for the purpose described.
GEORGE H. WALDO.
