Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1920.
Application filedAugust 21, 1919. Serial No. 318,855.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KATHERINE B. FULD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This-invention relates to toys and more particularly to that class of such devices known to the art as figure toys, and has for its object the provision of a device of the character described adapted to represent the distinctive movement of a certain animate object, as a umping frog or the like, mechanism being provided whereby such move ment is attained to produce a pleasing" and anmsing novelty.
Reference being'had to the accompanying drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which is illustrated an embodiment of the invention, like characters being used to indicate like parts as they occur,
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly broken away and showing some of the positions assumed by the device;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device in normal position, and
Fig. 3 is a detail section on line 3 .3 of Fig. v
The toy figure comprising a body portion 4, decoratedto represent a frog or other suitable animal is mounted upon a platform 5 having a centrally disposed slot- 6 and' carried by axle suppoits 7-8 carrying pairs of wheels 9-10 on axles 1112. the rear axle 12 being bent to form a crank 13 to which is pivoted a link 11 connected at 15 to the rear under portion of the body 4.
The front end of the body 4 has a'pair of fore legs 16 rigidly secured thereto at 17 and pivotally mounted at 18 in slots 19 formed in the foot portion 20 fixed to the platform 5.
Pivoted at 21 to the rear of the body 4: are legs comprising an upper member 22 to which is pivoted at 23 a lower member 24 normally resting in horizontal position on the platform 4 as shown" in Fig, 2'.
Means 25 are provided to assist in propelling the device.
The device described operates in the following manner:
As the device is moved in a forward or rearward direction the axle 12 is rotated by its pair'of wheels 10 reciprocating the link 14 carried by the crank portion 13, thus raising and lowering the figure, which is also given a forward and rearward movement about the pivots 18, the fore legs 16 being fast to the body portion 4 at 17. The rear legs being free to move on pivots 21 and 23 assume, during the operation of the device, a great number of varied positions of both the upper member 22 and the lower member 21, which may be accentuated by the speed of propulsion and whichefl'eo tively present an imitation of a jumping frog.
I realize that considerable variation" is possible in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my lnvention, and I there- 'fore do not intend to limit myself to the tion. a pair of rear leg members pivoted to i the body portion and free of said platform,
said rear legs comprising an upper member on the body portion and a lower member pivoted to the upper member.
2. In a toy, in combination, a wheel supported platform, a body portion of a figure,
- a pair of foot members secured to said platform and having slots therein, a pair of fore leg members pivoted to the foot members in said slots and fast on the body portion, a pair of rear leg members'pivoted to the body portion and free of said platform, said legs comprising an upper member on the bodyportion and a lower member pivoted to the upper member, and means for reciprocating said body portion.
3. In a toy, in combination, a wheel supported platform. a body portion of a figure. a pair of foot members secured to said platform and having slots therein a pair of prising a'cra-nk axle and alink between said 10 fore leg members pivoted to the foot memaxle and the body portion of said figure.
