ROBERT H. MESTER, WEBSTER GBOVES, MISSOURI.
i v I WBAPPER.
speincation of Letters man. Patented Jan, 27, 1920 Applicatin filed August 8, 1919. Serial No. 316,196.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be itknown that I, ROBERT H. Mns'rnp, a citizen ofy the UnitedStates, and a resident of Webster Groves, St. Louis and State `of vented certain new' and useful Improvements in Wrappers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement lin' wrappers, and has for its object to provide a in the county of Y wrapperl especially adapted for wrapping of the sheet, as
gum and the like, wherein an air-tight wrapper is provided, which will prevent the gum from becoming brittle, and will keep it'fresh, and wherein the wrapper isperforated on lines that will permit the 'removal of a portion thereof to give access 'to the sticks of gum in orderthat .they may be removed as desired, while holding them in superposed relation and -with the greater portion thereof still covered by ythe wrapper.
. Inthe drawings:
Figure 1 1s'a perspective view of a pack- -age of gum having the improved Wrapper;
Fig. 2 is a similar view, with the removable portion of the wrapper removed;
Fig. 3 is a plan view unfolded condition.
In the present embodiment of the Iinvention the improved ,wrapper isalsheet 1 of paper of suitable size, preferably waxed paper, and this `sheet has nearv one end a plurality of series of lines of partial separation 2 and 3, the said lines being spaced apart from each otherand from the adjacent end shown. The distance between the end of the sheet Vand the first line is approximatelyequal to the first line and the second, is notched at its edges, as indithat between and the sheet cated at 4 and 5,' at the ends of the lines 'of partial separation. These lines of partial separation may be perforations, or they may ybe formed in any other deslred manner;
.Missouri, have in-` of the wrapperl being at thejend of the .wrapperis folded/ about In use, the sticks of gum, indicated 'at 6, are placed upon the body of the wrapper in such position that the ends of the sticks at one end will be Hush with the line 2 of partial separation. The wrapper is of suc-h length that the other ends of the sticks will be spaced apart from. the opposite end of the. sheet about the same distance.
The side edges of the sheets are now folded over upon the sticks,'after whichthe ends are folded in the usual manner. When now the package is opened, it being understood that it has the usual outside wrapper, that portion which lies between the notches 4 and 5 may-be grasped between the thumb and linger, with the thumb of the other hand just inside the notch 5, and the entire end may be separated and removed, as shown in Fig.' 2. When the end is removed as above stated, any stick lof gum may be removed from the' package, while the remainder of thesticks will be protected, only a small portion of each stick being exposed.
I claim:
1. A wrapper for packages of gum and the likefcomprising a sheet having transverse lines of partial separation near one end, spaced apart from each other and from the said end, the outermost of the said lines package when the the package, and the wrapper being notched at one edge at the ends of theI lines.
2. A wrapper for packages of gum and the like, comfprising a sheet having trans- Wrapper is folded about the package.
