Description
Dec.v 22l 1925.
Y F. STRINGER CIGARETTE BOX Filed Feb. 14. i925 Patented Dec. 22, 1925.
UNITED' STATES FRANK STRINGER., F KELLOGG, IDAHO.
CIGARETTE BOX.
Application filed February- To all whom 'it mag/concern.'
Be it known' that I, FRANK STRINGER, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing at Kellogg, in Shoshone County, and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to improvements in cigarette boxes in the class of special receptacles and packages. Although I have illustrated the physical embodiment of my invention' in a cigarette package orv box, it will be understood that the invention/ may be embodied in other packages for vari-` ous uses. The primary object of my invention is the provision of means in the form of a duplex projector-strip whereby the' initial cigarettes removed from the box or pack may be so removed with facility and convenience after the package has been torn away to expose the end or ends of some of the cigarettes. -v
` The projector-strip is designed yto be packed with the cigarettes in the receptacle therefor and is provided with duplexv projecting tabs thatare accessible from either corner of the packagewhere opened, thus providing a selective use for the convenience of the cigarette user. After the first or initial cigarette or. cigarettes are withdrawn from the pack, the remaining cigarettes may with convenience be withdrawn in the usual manner.v
My invention consists inthe combination with a standard form or type of' cigarette box or package, of a specially formed projeetorstrip which is incorporated with the packv of cigarettes for use as will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed.
In' the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one com lete example of the physical embodiment oi) myinvention wherein the parts are combined and arranged in accordance with the best ymode I have thus far devised for the' practical application of the principles of my invention. v
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box -or package Vof c1garettes'with which the device of my invention is embodied, part ofthe package being torn away to disclose the use of one of the duplex projector-tabs.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through a cigarette box showing the operation of the projector-stripl and its relation to projected cigarettes.
lofl the outer rows of the pack.
141925. seran No. ao'z.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the duplex projector strips.
In the drawings for convenience of illustration and description of my invention, I have shown a standard form or type ot' cigarette box or package 1 with the usual bottom` 2 and top portion 3, the latter being torn away in Figure 1 to disclose the cigarettes at 4 and the manner of projecting them.
The duplex projector-strip is preferably made up of light paste-board or comparatively'heavy paperin approximate U-shapc and of the proper size to lit within the ciga rette box or package. l
The base 5 of the projector-strip lies flatupon the bottom 2 of the box and said base is provided with a pair of side arms 6 and 7 which extend parallel with the two end rows of the cigarettes in the pack as shown in Figure 2. At the free endsor extremities of the side arms are provided projectortabs 8 and 9, which when the strip is packed in the box lie beneath the top 3 of the box and project towardeach other over the ends A t the junctions of the side arms with the base of the strip are provided V-shaped folds 10 and 11, which when the strip is packed with the cigarettes lie lat against the bot` tom 2 ofthe box with the end rows of the S5 -cigarettes resting upon them as indicated at the right in Figure 2.
yNear the upper free ends of the strip are provided perforations 12 and 13 which extend in rows transversely ol the arms of the strip to facilitate tearingno of either or bothof the tabs after they have been used., to remove them as obstructions, from the interiorof the box.
The utility of the duplex projector-strip will be apparent from an inspection of the drawings.I After-one corner of the top of the package has been torn away, as indicated in Figure 1, from a selected corner of the box, the tab is accessible and may readily be grasped. By pulling on the selected tab,
the V-shape fold is caused to be extended to an angular position as indicated at the left in Figure 2, and this angularly extending', movement of they fold projects one or more rows of the cigarettes at that' end of the b ox, lifting or projecting. the cigarettes as indicated in Figures 1 and 2. The cigarettes wanted may then readily be grasped at their ends by the fingers and thumb and 1,10
Withdrawn from the pack. The used tab may then be torn away on the perforated line as 12, to remove itfrom the box, and the remaining cigarettes will be accessible for ready withdrawal from the box in the usual manner. By the use of this duplex projector strip either of the upper corners of the box may be torn away for access thereto and a projector-tab will be found ready for convenient use, the box being retained as a container for the remaining cigarettes.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A duplex projector-strip for use in cigarette packages comprising a base, side arms and normall flat V-shaped folds at the junction of sai base and arms, and foldable pull tabs at the free ends of said arms.
2. A duplex projector-strip 'for use in cigarette packages comprising a base, side arms having each a row of perforations near their free ends, normally flat V-shaped folds rows of cigarettes, side arms integral with 30 said folds and lying parallel with the cigar rettes, a row of transverse perforations 1n `each arm near its 1 free end, and foldablcl pull tabs at the free ends of said arms.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FRANK STRINGER.
