TISSUE CONTAINER Filed Aug. 2, 1947 INVENTOR. ARTH UR LORRANCE ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 15, 1950 OFFICE TISSUE CONTAINER Arthur Lorrance', Flushing, N. Y.
nppiioauoo augusta1947, Serial No. 765,704
This invention relates to improvements in packaging folded sheets of crepe paper, tissue paper and other like products.
Broadly, it is an object of my invention to provide a container for tissue sheets which are folded within the container so that successive sheets can be readily withdrawn from the container for use.
More particularly, it is an object of my in vention to provide a "container having an opening in the top thereof which opens upon pressure of the sides of the container and upon release of the pressure the opening automatically closes. i
A further object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive container for tissues which is simple in its operation and which keeps dust and dirt out of the container when not in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide an overlapping opening in a container so that in closed position tissues within the container will not become dislodged.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container for removable tissues so folded within the container that upon pressure of the sides of the container an opening is created so that a tissue may be readily removed by the fingers.
These and other advantages may become apparent from the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the container with pressure exerted upon the sides to provide an opening for the removal of tissues.
Figure 2 is a section taken through line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of the container without pressure exerted at the sides of the container and showing the overlapping top of the container with the opening in closed position.
Figure 4 is a section taken through line 44 of Figure 1 showing the opening in open position for the ready removal of tissues.
Figure 5 is a sect on taken through line 55 of Figure 1 showing the underneath top portion in lower position when pressure is exerted upon the sides of the container.
Referring to the drawing, numeral l0 represents a container preferably made of cardboard, although other known materials can readily be used in place of cardboard, such as plastic, leather and like materials. The container is comprised of a bottom I I, a front I2, a back I3, sides l4-|5 and a top which consists of a front portion l6 and a back portion l1. Tissues I8 are 3 Claims. (01. 206-57) so folded that the upper fold portion H] has its front edge 28 slightly behind the edge 2| of the rear portion 1'! of the top. A multiplicity of such tissues are placed within the container at the time the container i0 is formed, which is preferably made by .pasting the box together in manner well known in the field of making paper boxes.
The front top portion E6 of the container has diagonal crease lines 22 and 2-3 which areimpressed diagonally from the front corner toward the rear edge 24 so that upon pressure of the sides i4+l5 the ironttop l6 becomes divided into three panels, that is, the central panel 25 and side panels Mi-21, panels 26-' Z being tr-iangular in shape, while the central panerze be+ comes depressed as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 5. When such pressure exerted upon sides I4-i5 the top rear panel ilalso becomes divided into threesections, that is, a central section 28 and side sections 29-40, due to the crease lines 3| and 32 which are so adapted so that such pressure upon the sides I 4l5 cause the front edge 2| of the rear section I! to rise, thus creating an opening 33 since the edge 2| rises and the underneath 24 becomes lowered. Since the tissues I8 are so folded within the container so that the edge 28 appears within the opening 33, the fingers can readily be inserted to grasp the uppermost tissue and easily withdraw it through the opening 33, and from the container I0. Tissues underneath the upper tissue are withdrawn in like manner since all the tissues l8 are folded alike.
Upon release of side pressure, the opening automatically closes and since the edge 2| overlaps the edge 24, opening 33 disappears so that the container is in closed position as shown in Figure 3.
The operation c n be repeated numerous times with the same result.
A multiplicity of such containers can be easily packaged within a large container so that the individual shallow units, as pictured and described herein, can be removed one or more at a time for daily use, especially should a person have a cold, it would be more sanitary to use individual tissues to be destroyed during daily use. At the present time tissues are packaged in large quantities which cannot be readily carried upon the person or in the purse of the user.
It is obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the general spirit of the invention. It can be readily seen that the container may be made with tongues and slits instead of pasting means, but these are well known in the art of making containers.
I claim:
1. In a container of the character described for dispensing tissues, comprising a bottom, a front, a back, opposed sides and a top, said top having a front portion and a back portion, said front portion having its rear edge approximately across the center of said container and having diagonal crease lines running from the front corner to said rear edge of said front portion creating opposed triangles, said back portion having its front edge overlapping said rear edge of said front portion and having diagonal crease lines at the opposed front portion part. prefolded tissues within said container folded so that the upper edge thereof is slightly behind said rear edge of said front portion and parallel thereto whereby upon compression of said sides of said container said front portion becomes divided into three downwardly sloping panels and said back portion becomes divided into three upwardly sloping panels creatin an opening between said front and back portions permitting withdrawal of said tissues from said container and upon release of said pressure from said sides of said container said opening automatically closes to completely cover and enclose said tissues.
2. In a container of the character described for dispensing tissues, comprising a bottom, a front, a back, opposed sides and a top, said top having a front portion and a back portion, said front portion having its rear edge approximately across the center of said container and having diagonal crease lines running from the front corner to said rear edge of said front portion, said back portion having its front edge overlapping said rear edge of said front portion and having diagonal crease lines at the opposed front portion part, prefolded tissues within said container whereby upon compression of said sides of said container said front portion becomes divided into three downwardly sloping panels and said back portion becomes divided into three upwardly sloping panels creating an opening between said front and back portions permitting withdrawal of said tissues from said container.
3. In a container of the character described for dispensing tissues, comprising a bottom, a front, a back, opposed sides and a top, said top having a front portion and a back portion, said front portion having its rear edge approximately across the center of said container and having diagonal crease lines running from the front corner to said rear edge of said front portion, said back portion having its front edge overlapping said rear edge of said front portion and having diagonal crease lines at the opposed front portion part, tissues within said container folded so that the upper edge thereof is slightly behind said rear edge of said front portion and parallel thereto whereby upon compression of said sides of said container causes said rear edge of said front portion to lower and slope downward inwardly and said front edge of said back portion to rise creating an opening between said front and back portions permittin withdrawal of said tissues from said container.
