CONTAINER Original Filed May 6, 1953 l f 1g IN VENT OR I au/w/ ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 29, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Daller Carton This invention relates to a container and more specifically to a container with a removable window.
In general, it is an object of the invention to provide a device which will efficiently perform the purpose for which it is intended, which is simple and economical of construction, which can be expeditiously and conveniently manipulated, and which is readily manufactured and assembled. I
Another object of the invention is to provide a container having a window which may be broken away, which may have a removable guard thereon, and which may be opened by a motion of the guard.
Another object is to provide a container having a removable window protected by a section which may be reassociated with the window aperture after the removal of the window.
Another object is to provide a container having a removable window protected by. a section, a portion of said section being adapted to act as a tucking-in flap for the container.
Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties, and the relation of' elements which will be exemplified in the article hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention, reference'should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a blank from which a container may be constructed embodying one form of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a container constructed from the blank shown in Fig. 1.
The numeral Hi in the drawing denotes a blank. The general arrangement of parts may be as desired. That shown comprises a front section H, a base section I2, a back section |3 and a cover section Hi all in alignment. There are folding flaps l5 and IS on the. ends of the back and base sections respectively. At the ends of the front section are full end sections |1 associated with which are the further folding flaps It.
In one of the sections, for example the front,
a there is a score line l9 defining at least in part an area which may be removed to createa window, and from another portion of theblank'there may extend another section to be juxtaposed to pany, Inc., NewYork, ,N, acorporation of New York Application May 6, 1933, Serial No Renewed March 22, 193
broken out otherwise.
said window when the blank is folded. Thus the section may'extend beyond the cover section M. A score line 2| may set off various areas in the section'2ll. Upon the breaking of this line one of these areas 22 becomes a tucking-in flap. When the container is constructed, the other area- 23 maybe suitably secured to the section II, as by an adhesive in the region 24. The region 24 may be separated from the remainder of the area 23 by a score line 25.
10 The construction and operation of the device is as follows: The blank is folded into the 'shape desired, the cover and attached section 20 re maining free. A lining 21 of a whole or a part of the device may be inserted, which may be transparent at least adjacent the window, and material inserted into the lined container, or an inner container filled with material may be inserted into the container formed from the blank It]. The inner container may be transparent adjacent the window. The cover is then moved into place and the section 20 placed across the window as defined by the score line Hi. The section 20 may be secured in the region 24 to the section II and, if desired, the scored window in section II may also be secured, by any suita-v ble adhesive, to the area 23. The container may be opened by breaking thescore line 2| and the cover M with attached flap 22 raised, or the cover may remain down but the area 23 moved away from the area which is to become a window. If the latter is secured to the area 23, it will be broken out by the motion, or, if not, it may be The contents may be inspected through the window and the area moved back over the window, or the score line 25 may be broken and the area 23 entirely removed. If it is to remain, it may be secured to the window by suitable means such as a tab 26 which may be outlined by the score line 2| and which may be adapted to be inserted under the edge of the window.
It is to be understood that the invention described and claimed herein is not to be limited the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the-above descriptionor shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said te-fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination comprising a container having a score line defining an area which may be removed to create a window, and a section overlying said area and intersecured therewith whereby the moving of said section causes the removal of said area, said section being detachably secured to a further section of said container which is provided with a potential tucking fiap and which is adapted to form a cover for said container, said overlying section being hingedly secured in part to another portion of said container and being provided with means adapted to engage said window whereby said section may be held in covering relation thereto.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination comprising a container having a score line defining an area which may be removed to create a window, an imperforate cover section and a section attached to said cover section and overlying said area, said scored area being in a section of said carton which does not underlie said cover section.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination comprising a container having a score line defining an area. which may be removed to create a window, an imperfoi'ate cover section, a section attached to said cover and overlying said area, a portion of said section adjacent said cover being attached to a portion of the wall in which said area is located, a second score line defining said portion, and a third score line in said section setting off an area thereof, at least a part of said latter area overlying said first mentioned area, said score line being arranged to form a tab on said area. adapted to catch in said window after said window has been created.
4. In a device of the character described, the
combination comprising a container having a score line defining an area which may be removed to create a window, an imperforate cover section, a section attached to said cover and overlying said area and secured to a portion of the wall in 5 which said area is located, a score line in said lastmentioned section setting ofi an area thereof adapted to form a tucking-in flap and setting off another area thereof adapted to form a movable closure for said window. 5. A carton having top, bottom, front, back and side walls, one of said walls being adapted to form a hinged cover section, a score line in another of said walls defining an area which may be removed to create a window, and a section detachl5 ably attached to said cover and overlying said area and secured to the wall in which said area is located.
6. A carton having six walls, a score line on one wall defining an area which may be removed to create a window, a second wall comprising an imperforate cover section, a section attached to said cover and overlying said area and secured to the wall in which said area is located, and a score line in said latter section setting off a portion thereof, a part at least of said portion overlying said area.
7. A carton provided with an imperforate, hinged cover section having a detachable extension overlying an adjacent wall of said carton, a score line in said adjacent wall defining an area which may be removed to create a window and which underlies said extension, said extension being affixed to the wall provided with said score line whereby said cover may be opened and closed without exposing said window after said extension has been detached from said cover. v
8. In a carton provided with an imperforate, hinged cover section, a wall adjacent to but not underlying said cover section, a plurality of score lines in said wall, one line defining an area adapted to be removed to form a window, a second line defining a section overlying said window and provided with a tab adapted to engage the edge of said window, said second score line forming a line of severance between said section andsaid cover.
