Speciflcation of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec.'30, 1919.
A lication filed Januar 30, 1919. seriai No. 274,089.
TO all 'whom t't 'may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH BESAN ON, a citizen of Germany, residing at Bienne, Canton of Berne, Switzerland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razors, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of the present invention is a razor in which a steel lamina forming the razor blade is held between clamping jaws of a blade holder. The feature of the de' vice is that the clamping jaws are formed by the ends of a folded resilient metal strip.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan View and Flg. 2 a section on the line A-B of Fig. 1.
In the embodiment shown the blade holder consists of the folded resilient metal strip a. The latter has two limbs a' a", the ends b, b' of which form the clamping jaws between which the razor blade d is arranged and clamped. As shown in Fig. 2,
the strip or plate is so bent that the cylindrical portion a is out of symmetry with the j aws; that is to Say, a larger portion of such cylindrical portion is at 'one side of the pair of jaws than at the Other side. The upper clamping jaw is fitted with three studs c adapted to pass through the blade d formed of a thin Steel lamina, and through corresponding openings in the lower clamping jaw. The central stud c is screw threaded and fitted with a nut se. By
tightening the latter the clamping jaws are.
brought together, clamping 'the blade d in position. If the nut is loosened back the clamping jaws separate from one another, and the blade can then be' removed from the holder. The lowe'r clamping jaw is formed with comb-like teeth at its free end o while the upper clamping jaw is slightly arched; the loWer jaw may be arched similarly to the upper in such manner that the blade when' clamped may be correspondingly bent, and thus more firmly held.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the samen is to be per- 'Ormed, I declare that what I claim is:
A razor comprising a resilient plate bent 'upon itself to form a pair of jaws, one of said jaws lying in a horizontal plane and having a plurality of openings therein, and the other jaw curved away therefrom and provided with a plurality of studs adapted to pass through said openings, a cylindrical portion immediately back of Said jaws and outtof symmetry therewith, a blade adapted to be clamped between Said jaws and provided with a plurality of openings adapted to register with the openings in the horizontal jaw, one of said studs being threaded, and a nut adapted to fit said threaded stud for closing the jaws together and adjusting the horizontal jaw and the blade toward the curvature of the' other jaw.
In testimony Whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
