Application iedune 3o, 1921.
Serial No. 481,701.
. (GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS 0F THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I. ANTON OLsEN FRIs DAL, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Lillehammer, Norway, have invented 5 certain new and useful lmprovements in Brush or Broom Holders (for which I iled application in Norway March 6th, 1917, Patent No. 29,541; in Denmark March 26th, 1919, Patent No. 27,048; in England May 25th, 1918, Patent No. 119,424; in Sweden January 31st, 1919, Patent No. 45,710) and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. l
My invention relates to means for looking or clamping the heads of brooms, brushes and the like to a handle or stick.
An embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 being 25 a side view and Fig. 2 a rear view of the same.
The locking means comprises two separate locking members 1 and 2, which may suitably be stamped from sheet iron. The member 1 is provided with two teeth or points 3 which are driven into the back of the stick 4. Said member is provided in front with a central curved hook 5, adapted to grip the edge of the back plate 7 of the broom or brush to be attached to the handie. At either side of the central hook 5 the locking member 1 is provided with a shoulder 6 being spaced so tar from said hook as to ensure sumcient support in a transverse direction.
The other locking member 2 is a completely loose part which is clamped against the broom handle or stick by means of a screw bolt 8 passing through the locking member 1 and the handle, a nut 9 on said screw bolt serving to press the member against the handle, enclosing it with its upper curved portion 10. 0n tightening up the nut 9 the lower hook 11 on the member 2 will move in an arc having the portion 10 for its fulcrum. As will be seen, the hook 11 will press against the edge of the back plate 7 and at the same time swing the same upwards so as to press its upper face irmly against the shoulder 6. In this way a very secure locking of the brush head to the handle or stick is effected and at the' same time the members 1 and 2 will be locked firmly to the handle their three points of contact being situated on opposite sides of the handle and properly spaced.
Claims.
1. A brush or broom holder comprising in combination a stick, a stationary jaw attached to the stick and adapted to hook over the front edge of the brush head, spaced shoulders on said stationary jaw adapted to engage the back of the brush, a movable jaw having a concave upper end bearing on the stick and a curved lower end adapted to hook o-ver the rear edge of the brush head and means for causing the movable aw to swing about its upper end as a fulcrum, thus clamping the brush head between the stationary and movable jaws.
2. A brush or broom holder in accordance with claim 1 wherein the shoulders of the stationary jaw supporting the brush head are on either side of the stick and wherein the means for causing the movable jaw to swing comprises a bolt passing through the stick and movable jaw and a nut on said bolt adapted to move the movable jaw.
1n testimony that l claim the foregoing as my invention, l have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.-
