JOSEPH N'OGERINO, 0F PASADENA, CALIFORNIA.
QUIGK-DETACHABLE MAINSPRING-MOUNTING FOR CLOCKS AND THE-LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 23, 1919.
Application filed February 12, 1919. Serial No. 276,684.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH Noonumo, a,
citizen of the United States, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Quick-Detachable Mainspring-Mountings for Clocks and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a quick detachable main spring mounting for clocks and the like, and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a clock works having a quick detachable main spring mounting embodying the principles of my invention, the View being taken looking in the direction indicated by the arrow 1 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation looking in the direction indicated by the arrow 2 in Fig. 1, parts being broken away to show the construction.
Fig. 3 is a view analogous to Fig. 2 and showing the quick detachable main spring mounting ready to be mounted in the frame.
The main spring 1 is mounted upon a shaft 2 in the usual way, a winding key 3 is connected to the shaft 2, a drive wheel 4 is rotatably mounted upon the shaft 2, a ratchet wheel 5 is fixed upon the shaft 2, a pawl 6 is carried by the drive wheel 4 in position to engage the ratchet wheel 5, and a spring 7 holds the pawl in operative position. The parts 1 to 7 are of the usual construction and go together as the main spring assembly, and it is the object of my invention to make the mounting or frame for this assembly so that the assembly may be quickly mounted and quickly removed or detached. 1
The side frames 8 and 9 are rigidly connected by spacing posts 10, 11, 12 and 13. Slotted bearings 14 and 15 are formed from the upper edges and at the centers of the frames 8 and 9 to receive the shaft 2. The spacing post 13 is cut away at its inner side to form a clearance space 16 so that the drive wheel 4 may move toward the post 13 far enough to bring the shaft 2 out of the bearings 14 and 15. The slots 17 in the bearings 14 and 15 extend toward the post 13 and up wardly to the edges of the frames. A stud 18 is fixed in the post 13 in line with the main spring, and the outer end of the main spring has a perforated hook 19-to fit upon the post 13 with the stud 18 extending through the perforation.
The tension of the main spring 1 will throw the shaft 2 against the solid sides of the bearings 14 and 15, so that when the spring is under tension there is no tendency for the shaft 2 to pass outwardly through the slots 17 Latch bars 20 and 21 are pivotally connected at their outer ends and against the outer faces of the frames 8 and 9, and the inner ends 22 and 23 of the latch bars are offset inwardly to extend into the slots 17, and the end faces 24 of the latch bars fit against the shaft 2 in the slots 17, so that if open the slots 17 and allow the shaft 2 to pass out of the bearings 14 and 15 through the slots 17. The drive wheel 4 connects with theclock gears 25 in the usual way.
If desired, the spacing post 13 may be moved in the frames 8 and 9 far enough to make the clearance for the drive wheel 4 without making a cut away portion 16.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claime I claim:
1. A quick detachable main spring mount? ing for clocks comprising side frames having slotted bearings formed from their edges, the openings to the bearings being inclined, and latch bars pivotally connected at their outer ends against the faces of the side bars, the inner ends of the latch bars being offset to extend into the slots and the end faces of the latch bars being adapted to fit against a main spring shaft.
2. A quick detachable main spring mounting for clocks comprising the combination with a main spring and a main spring shaft, of side frames having half bearings to receive the main spring shaft and inclined slots leading to the half bearings, posts conofiset to extend into the slots and the end faces of the latch bars forming half hearings to fit against the shaft.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JOSEPH NOCERINO.
