Be it known that I, ERICH JOHNSON, Va citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade Holders, of which the following is a speciication.

This invention relates to a device which is designed primarily for use in connection with blades for safety razors, it has for its principal object the provision of means whereby all types of safety razor blades may be securely held while stropping the same, the means provided being so constructedv as to permit being held in the hand in much the same manner as that when stropping the old types of razors.

Further and more limited objects of the invention are the provision of means which will permit inserting the blades between the clamping members in a simple and efficient manner, the provision of a device which may be cheap of manufacture, durable, attractive in appearance and one which will occupy a minimum amount of space thereby permitting the same to be conveniently carried.

The foregoing may be accomplished in the embodiment of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, and in which Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 2 is a sectional plan; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section similar to Fig. 1, but showing the manner in which the blade is inserted, the blade being indicated in dotted lines; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of the ends of the blade clamps and Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8 are detail views of modified forms of clamp retaining means.

In Figs. 1 to 3 wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 repre-V sents the handle which may be of metal, hard rubber or the like, and which is provided with a central bore 2 into which is placed the stem 3 of one of the members of a clamp indicated as a whole at 4. and with convex extensions 13 for the purpose of allowing that type ofrazor blade which is formed with a thickened upper edge such as the blade known to the trade as the EverReady. At the end of the member 11 the flange 12 is bent at right angles to itself for a short distance thereof, and then rearwardly upon itself thereby forming a clip 14 within which is placed the end of the portion 12 of the clamp 10, and formed upon the end of the convex portion 13 of the clamp 10 is a similar shaped clip 15 which engages a corresponding portion of the clamp 11.

In operation the device is grasped with the clamp in the left hand and with the handle in the right hand, the clamps are drawn against the tension of the spring 5 until the portions 8 and 9 of the clamps are freed from the recess 7 and with the thumb of the operator the clamp 10 is swung using the junction of the clips 14C and l5 as a pivot. The razor blade is then inserted therebetween and the clamps allowed to recede until the portions 8 and 9 are within the recess 7, this being accomplished bythe i action of the spring 5, and the device is then ready to be used in identically the same manner as that which is experienced when using the old type of razor.

In Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8 I have shown various modications of the means for retaining the clamps in position, all of which comprises a spring actuated means with the ex-V ception of the one shown in Fig. 5, this being provided with a knurled nut 18 threaded upon the end of the stem 3 and while I have shown these particular forms of device it is obvious that numerous other ways will suggest themselves to those familiar with the art and I do not wish to limit myself further than is required by the same and that which is within the scope of the ap sented inwardly and adapted to engage. part pended Claim. of the outer end of the other member. l0
