The garment, made of muslin, percale or the like, is shown consisting of a single piece of material 1 which may fasten at the front or back, and, if desired two rows of buttons or other securing devices may be used to al- "low of adjustment.

The shoulder straps 2 form, with the body portion, the armsizes 3. They are shown attached to each of the meeting edges of the garment at the top of the back as in Fig. 3, and extending over the base or nape of the neck, that is the stationary art of the clavicle, and straight down to t eupper edge of the front as in Fig. 1. This so locates the straps that they naturally tend to remain in contact with the nape of the neck and out of contact with the movable part of the clavicle or collar bone. The straps are preferably provided with two or more fastening devices 4 shown attached over the shoulder.

The garment substantially incloses the waist and upper body of the wearer to constitute a bust and abdominal support and its main portion at the front terminates at its lower end above the hips while at the rear it extends downward toward the sides two inches or more farther than the front. The sides are cut away to form recesses 5 which are bridged by elastics 6.

From each side of the front lower edge a broad tapering band 7, whose rear edge is about in line with the front edge of the recess 5, extends downward and rearward over and forms a support for the hip and thigh and is equipped with an elastic hose supporter. A co-acting band 8 extends from each side of the rear lower edge of the garment as at 9, below the recess 5, downward and forward over the thigh and crosses, and is secured to, the band 7 as at 10. It, also, is provided with an elastic hose supporter.

There are certainwell settled orthopaedic principles recognized by those familiar with .this art to whom the advantages of my invention will readily appeal. One of these is that the main tendency to slip-shod carriage and appearance in growing girls is due to garments which "allow the weight of, the clothing and-the pull upon the hose supporters to cause )ressure on the outer tips of the shoulders, t at'is the movable parts of the clavicle or collar bone. This tends to drag the shoulders forward and depress the chest. It is generallyrecognized that the proper point of location for the weight and pull is on the stationary part of the clavicle near the base or nape of the neck at the sides and back. Manifestly my garment, known commercially as junior waist, meets this requirement. It is equally apparent that in a garment whose shoulder straps extend up from the waist line and cross in the back, the straps, even though they normally lie close to the neck, must pull and cause friction as the girl performs athletic exercise. I avoid this entirely and at the same time insure The waist is shown equipped with buttons holding the back-straight and erect and the shoulders flaton the back. 1

Another important principle is that the bust and abdomen should be supported but not by the movable parts sustaining the weight and strain. Reference to Fig. 1 will show that while the garment provides adequate bust and abdominal support yet there is no pull or variation of pressure or friction at those points.

A third principle is that a substantial connection must exist between the garment proper and the stockings but it must not re strict the natural energy or center the strain CV61 the abdomen. -My bands 7 and 8 not only meet these requirements by reason of thelr locations over the thighs and their positions relative to the recesses 5 and the shoulder straps, but they also furnish a substantial support for the body in all positions while allowing the utmost freedom in play or athletic exercise.

I claim as my invention:

1. A girls underwaist having a body portion constituting a bust and abdominal sup port and formed with a recess in each of its sides, the garment being equipped with two broad spaced apart bands extending from the sides of the front loweredge 0f the body portion downward and rearward beneath said recesses to constitute hose supporters and supports for the hips and thighs.

2. A girls underwaist opening at the back and having shoulder straps extending from near the meeting edges of the garment and adapted to extend over the base of theneck" of the wearer and secured to the upper edge of the front of the garment, said waist constituting a bust and abdominal support and having two broad spaced apart tapering bands extending from each side of the front lower edge of the garment downward and rearward, said garment terminating at the sides of the back lower than in front, a recess being formed in each of its sides, and bands extending downward and 'forward from the sides of the back and'crossin and secured to said former bands, said ands constitutin hose supporters.=-
