RICHARD ROSS, WATERVILLE, WASHINGTON.
COMBINED TOOTH BRUSH AND POWDER I-IOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Patented Dec. 9, 19:19.
Applicationflled Ju1y 17, 1918. Serial No. 245,435.
To all whom it may concern: Be it knownthat I, RICHARD Ross, citizen .of the United States, residing at Waterville,
in the county of Douglas and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Tooth Brush and Powder Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. I
This invention relates to certain improvements in combined tooth brush and powder holders and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character including a hollow or tubular body divided longitudinally into two compartments, one of said compartments being adapted to receive and house a tooth brush when not in use while the second compartment is adapted to contain a supply of tooth powder or other detergent and wherein said second compartment is provided with means for controlling and vre lating the discharge therefrom.
he invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts of my improved combined tooth brush and powder holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and'the device rendered simpler, less expensive, and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
'The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same withreference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1, is a view in longitudinal section taken through a combined tooth brush and powder holder constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken thpiough the device as disclosed in Fig. 1; an
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through a' combined tooth brush and powder holder constructed in accordance with a further embodiment of my invention. In the embodiment of my invention as dis closed in Figs. 1 and 2, B denotes a hollow or tubular body open at opposite ends and preferably circular in-cross secti0n.. Disposed medially of the body B is a partition 1 which divides the interior of the body into two compartments a and b, and said parti.- tion 1 extends from one end of the body B to a point inwardly of the opposite end of the body B whereby a chamber a is provided to receive the inner or heavy end portion of the head H of a tooth brush. The compartment a is adapted to contain a supply of tooth powder or other detergent and has its opposite ends closed, as indicated at 2 and 3. Ooacting with the inner closed end 2 of the compartment at is a removable cap 4, preferably of a screw type, whereby means are provided for inserting the required supply within the compartment a. The opposite or outer .end 3 of the compartment a 1s provided with a sifter 5, preferably of a shutter type, whereby the discharge of the powder or other detergent from the compartment a may be readily controlled and regulated.
The compartment 6 receives the handle member M of the tooth brush so that, when not in use, the brush and body B may be caused to occupy a minimum of space.
Coacting with the opposite end portions of the body B are the slip caps 6 and 7, thecap 6 incasing the outer end portion of the brush head H while the cap 7 serves to close the opposite end of the body so that ingress of dust or other foreign matter within the body B is prevented so that the brush is maintained in a highly sanitary condition.
By having the opposite ends of the com-,
partment 6 open it will be self evident that the same may be readily cleansed.
In the form of invention illustrated in Fig. 3, the partition 1 in the body B terminates inwardly of an end of the body B to provide a chamber 0 of a size' to receive substantially the entire head H of'the brush. The inner end of the compartment a is perm'anently closed, as indicated at 2, while the outer end- 3 thereof is providedwith the removable cap 4 to'afi'ord means whereby the supply of powder or other detergent may be placed within the compartment a. The cap 4* is provided with a Sifter 5 also preferably of a shutter type, whereby thedischarge from said compartment a may be readily controlled and regulated.
Hingedly connected with the end portion of the body B provided with the chamber 0' is a closing cap 6 and coacuing with the opposite end portion of the body B is the slip cap 7.
.- brush and powder holder constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and employed, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and scope thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
.1 claim:
A'holder of the class-described comprising i a hollow body, a medially disposed partition arranged within the body and extending from an end thereof to a point materially inward of the opposite end of the body and afiording two compartments, the ends said second compartcompartment affording a chamber to receive the inner portion of the brush head carried by the handle extending within the second compartment and removable closures coact-. ing with the opposite end port ons of the body. Q
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
