WILLIAM IVL HEDRICK AND EDVJIN G. ERVIN, OF FORT LOGAN,- COLORADO.
- EXHIBITING DEVICE FOR CERTIFICATES, PICTURES, AND THE LIKE.
Patented Dec. 2 1919.
Application filed February 11, 1919. Serial no. 276,447.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM M. HED- RICK and EDWIN G. Envriv, citlzens of the United States, residing at Fort Logan, 1n the county of Arapahoe and Stateof Colo-- rado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Exhlbitmg Device for Certificates, Pictures, and the like; and we do'hereby declare the following to be a full,
a device or frame,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same;
Our invention relates to improvements in exhibiting or framing device for certificates,
pictures and the like which has two sides or faces to be. exhibited.
An object of our invention is to provide of the class described, having suitable. means for attac ing the same-to a wall and with means for exhibiting both sides of the contained certificate,
' picture or the like, and for causing the frame carrying the certificate or picture to normally lie in a plane substantially parallel to the wall. v
A further object of our lnventlon 1s to provide a-device of the character described proved exhibiting device, showing the pic-- ture carrying frame in position perpendicular to the wall onv which the device is mounted. Fig. 2 is a front edge elevation of the device in the same. position as in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on line 33 of Fig. '1. J
Fig. 4 is a view of a fragment of Flg. v
1 on an enlarged scale.
Fig.5 is a plan of the fragment shown in Fig. 4:, as seen from below.
The construction will be best understood from a description of the device as now constructed and used, it being understood that many of the details of construction can be.
from the army and navy, which certificates bear upon the reverse side. the enlistment record of the discharged soldier or sailor.
It is, therefore, desirable that the certificate.
be framed and supported in such manner that both sides may be easily exhibited. It is also desirable that the frame-work be so constructedthat the certificate may be easily insertedand removed.
To accomplish these purposes we provide a mounting strip 1, which may be secured to a wall indicated at-2, by any suitable means such as screws for which the holes 3 may be provided in the strip 1.
In the strip 1, we insert suitable means such as screw-eyes a and 5 forlthe mounting of the frame, which we will now describe.
The frame is constructed in two parts indicated at 6 and7, respectively. Both portions of the frame consistof channeled sheet metal. Portion 6 consists of a channeled member of three sides, the top and bottom portions of which correspond in length with the width of the picture or certificate to be framed, the upright portion of member 6 corresponding to the height of the picture or certificate to be framed. The width of the channel in member 6, and likewise in member 7, is sufi'icient to accommodatethe picture or certificate, andpreferably to likewise accommodate two plates of glass, one to be placed over each faceof the certificate or picture.- Fig. 3 clearly illustrates the two plates of glass positioned withinthe channel.
The ends of the top and bottom portions of member 6 are drawn out, flattened and bent upon themselves, forming ears or lugs 8 for the mounting of the frame. This portion is'bent upon itself as clearly seen in Fig. 4:, the purpose being to strengthen the ear or lug.
The fourth side of the frame consists of member 7 which is likewise achannel memher with the channel corresponding to that of member 6, and in length this member is equal to the heightof the picture or certifi cateto be framed. The-ends ofmember 7 are likewise drawn out and flattened into cars or-lugs 9 forthe purposeof mounting. a
The ears or lugs 8 and 9 are providedwith holes at their centersfor the reception-of the mounting Wire or rod 10 hereafter described.
"When the parts areprepared we ins'ert in the member 6 the picture or certificate to be mounted preferably with a plate of glass on .each side thereof. Three edges of the pic-.
in the .ears or lugs Sand 9 register with the holes or eyes of the screw-eyes.- Thewire orinountingrod 10 is then inserted through v the e es and throu h the holes: 1n .the ears or lugs 8- and 9, and in this manner the rod 10 serves the double purpose of binding the frame together and providing apivot al support'th'erefor. The-mounted certificate'or picture'may 'then be turned to either side upon the rod l0so that either 'sideoffthe picture or certificate "may be exhibited 'as desired. 1 1' V In order that the'frame shall not stand out away fromthe wallbut,-in whatever po sition itnnay be left shall automatically swing back and lie against the wall,' weso construct the device as clearly shown in Fig. j 1, that the screw-eye or mountmg 5 shall extenchfartherfrom the wallthan the screweye or other mounting 4, and that the bottom ofthe frame-shall'beheldfarther from the wall than-the top thereof: By mounting the frame in'this position it will; of its own weight turn or fall from theperpendicular position shown in Fig. l and-will come to rest in'contactwith the wall upon which it is mounted-and will thus at all 'times remain in a plane substantially parallel with such wall.
On this account either one side or the other of the certificate or picture will always appear as -a framed certificateor picture hanging against the walL V .1 r
The rod or wire 10 is provided with a bent portionll or other suitable means for hold That we claim is:
