Description
J. CHERRY.
BREECHING LAYER LOOP FOR HARNESS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 3, I918 1 ,32 1 ,7 1 8, Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
5 YMMV v awn away UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH CHERRY, OF FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS.
BREEGHING LAYER-LOO]? FOR HARNESS.
Application filed August 3, 1918.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrir CHERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Smith, in the county of Sebastian and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Breeching Layer-Loops for Harness, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends generally improvements in that class of inventions known as harness and more particularly has reference to a breech layer loop for a teamharness.
It is the principal aim and object of this invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character designed to be snugly fitted against and attached to the main breech layer of a breeching for receiving a hanger portion of the breeching to assure of the supporting of the hip strap.
It is an equally important object of the present invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character wherein the con struction is novel and designed to be straddled about the outer section of the breech layer and secured to both of the sections of the strap by suitable fastening means such as a rivet thus obviating the employment of machine needles for the attaching of a breech loop of the ordinary construction, the device serving as a material as well as a time saver.
Among the other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character described with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple and the cost of production low and the efficiency high.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view showing the device applied.
Fig. 2 is a perspective detail showing the loop attached to a portion of the breeching layer.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail of the device detached, looking toward the inner face thereof.
Fig. 4 is a vertical central sectional view of the invention.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there isprovided a Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
Serial No. 248,108.
breeching l of a set of harness the main breech strap 2 of which is composed of an inner section 8 and an outer section a of a width less than the width of the inner section and secured to the surface of the outer section by means of rivets 5. Connected tothe breech strap 1 is the improved layer loop indicated in its entirety by the numeral 6 for receiving a hanger strap 7 forming a part of the breeching to assure of the supporting of the breech layer in a proper manner as indicated in the drawing.
The improved layer loop in the present instance consists of a body 8 of a rectangular configuration and provided on its inner face with a transverse groove 9, the opposed side walls of whidh constitute shoulders 10 which, when the body arranged vertically across the strap, engage the upper and lower edges of the outer section +L while the outer surface of the section a contacts with the bottom of the groove and the inner face of the body 8 contacts with the outer face of the inner section 3 of the breech strap 2. In other words, the body is arranged in straddled arrangement with the outer section for intimate contact with the inner section 3. The upper end of the body is ex tended slightly above the edge of the inner section and has the upper edge thereof rounded, the body being further provided near the upper edge with a transverse slot 11 for receiving the hanger strap 7, mentioned above. In attaching the body to the breech layer the body is provided with a central. opening 12 which is alined with registerin openings in the sections 3 and 4E while a suitable fastener such as a rivet 18 is extended through the body and the two sections of the breech strap and fastened to assure of the retention of the body in the position described. By employing this fastening rivet it is apparent that the device may be easily and quickly attached and that the employment of needles and thread for the sewing of the device in position, as is customarily employed in the present construction of layer loops is obviated.
It is thought in view of the foregoing description that a further detailed description of the operation of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
hat is claimed is The combination with a breech strap embodying an inner section and an outer section secured to the inner section and of a Width less than the width of the inner section, and a hanger strap, of a layer loop embodying a body of a rectangular configuration "and formed on its inner surface with a transverse groove forming opposed shoulders, the groove being straddled about the outer section and intimately contacting 10 with dzhe outer faceof the inner section, the
body being also provided with an opening, a rivet passing through the opening and sections for securing the body in position and the upper portion of the body being extended above the breech strap and formed with a transverse slot for receiving the hanger strap.
Intestimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOSEPH CHERRY.
