REVERSIBLE SHADE-SUPPORTING- IBRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
. Application filed February 24, 1919'. Serial No. 278,571.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J onN'L. MONTGOMERY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Reversible Shade-Supporting Brackets, of which the following description, n connection with the accompanying drawlngs, 1s a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.
This'invention relates to a shade fixture or bracket of novel construction as will be described, whereby a single bracket can be used for both sides of the window and can be applied to the inside and outside of the w ndow casing, and when applied to the inside is brought in close proximity thereto as will be dwcribed. v I
The bracket or fixture is provided with a cord separator as will be described.
' The particular features of the invention will'be pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
Figure 1 is an elevation of a sufficient portion of a window provided with an adjustable shade and with supporting bracketsembodying the inventio Q F i g. 2, a detail showing one of the brack ets fastened to the inside of the casing.
Fig. 3, a side elevation of Fig. 2 looking toward the left.
Fig. 4, a plan view of the bracket shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. 5, an elevation of the window with the brackets applied to the outside of the casing.
Fig. 6, a front elevation of shown in Fig. 5, and
Fig. 7, a side elevation of Fig. 6 looking toward the right.
The bracket herein shown as embodying this invention may be a casting or as is preferred may be of sheet brass or other metal, and consists of a plate or member 10 preferably substantially rectangular in form and the bracket 1 provided with a. top flange 12, a bottom flange 13 extended in the same direction as the flange 12, a side flange 14 of a width substantially equal to the width of the top and bottom flanges 13, 12, and an opposite side flange 15, which is preferably curved as shown in Fig. 3 and is of a width not greater 7 than the side flange 14. The side flanges 14,
15, extend from the plate 10in the same direction for a purpose as will be described.
The plate 10 is provided with an opening 16 adjacent the sideflange 15 and with a flange 17, which may be struck up from the plate to form the opening 16 and which extends in the same direction as the side flange 15, with which it cooperates to form bearings for the shaft 20 of a grooved pulley 21, which is of a diameter less than-the width of the side flange 14,-soas to leave ample space for the free passage of cords 22, 23,
between the pulley and the inside surface 24 H of the casing 25 when the bracket is used on the inside of the window casing.
The plate or nie'mberl0 may be designated the back plate of the bracket and it is provided with'holes for the passage of screws 26, when the back plate is fastened to the casing 25 on the inner side thereof as shown in F igs. 1 to 4. Th sideflange 14 is provided with slmilar holes for the passage of screws-27, as represented in Fig. 7 when'the bracket is fastened to the window casing on the butside thereof, as represented in The top and bottom flanges 12,13, are'provided with openings 30, 31, in alinement for the passage of guide rods32, 33, located on opposite sides of the window casing and on the journals 36, 37, of the roller 38 on which v the window shade 39 is wound.
which slide the bearing members 34, 35, for i Each guide rod is extended through only one flange of the bracket with which it is used, which is the lower flange of either the right or left bracket.
As represented in Figs. 1 to 4, the guidelower flange, they are free to' hang vertically and parallel with the window casing.
The bearing members 34, 35 for the shade roller 38 may be of any suitable construction, and are preferably of sheet metal and by means of the cords22, 23, one eordas 22 being herein shown as fastened to the bearing member 35 and passed over the pulley 21 of the left hand bracket, thence i across the window over the pulley :21 of the right hand bracket and then extended down to a cleat near the bottom of the window. The other bearing member 8% has fastened to it one end of the cord 28, which is passed over the pulley of the right hand bracket and thence down and between the pulley and a pin a6 supported by the flanges 15, 17 be low the pulley, the cord '23 being connected to the cord 22 as at 50.
By reference to Figs. 1 and 5, it will be seen that asingle construction or type of bracket can be used on the inside and outsid of the window casing, and for both the right and left hand brackets, and by reference to Figs. 2 to 4, it will be seen that when the brackets are used on the inside,
the back plate or member 10 is capable of engaging the inner surface of the casing, so that the guide rods are brought in close proximity to the casing, which not only presents a better appearance but enables the brackets to be firmly secured in position by substantially hort screws.
The bracket may be provided with pins 4:6 located above and below the pulley 21 or the flanges 15, 17 may be provided with suitable holes for the insertion of said pins, when tne bracket is placed in its operative position.
Claims:
1. A reversible shade supporting bracket, comprising back plate provided with top and bottom flanges having holes through them, and with a plurality of side flanges extended from said back plate in the same direction as the top and bottom flanges and substantially at right angles to the latter, and a pulley located between two of said side flanges and journaled therein.
2. A reversible shade supporting bracket, comprising a back plate provided with screw holes, and having top and bottom flanges extended in the same direction and provided with openings for the passage of a guide rod, a side flange extended from said back plate in the same direction as the top and bottom flanges and substantially at right angles to the latter and provided with screw holes, and additional side flanges extended in the same direction as the top and bottom flanges and substantially at right angles to the latter and forming bearings for the haft of a pulley located between them.
3. A reversible shade supporting bracket,
comprising a back plate provided with top and bottom flanges having holes through them, and with a plurality of side flanges extended from said back plate in the same direction as the top and bottom flanges, a pulley located between two of said side flanges and journaled therein, and a cord separating pin carried by said side flanges below said pulley.
T n testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
JOHN L. MONTGOMERY.
