To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, KAEL VILHELM LJUNGDELL, a citizen of Sweden, residing at Villa Klarahill, Malm, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Building of Concrete Ships, Lighters, and other Concrete Constructions, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to certain improvements in the building of light concrete constructions, Vsuch as ships, lighters and the like without using an ordinary frame work and without any false work construction or molds.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing. Figure 1 shows the framing for a concrete construction according to the invention, and Fig. 2 shows a cross section of a hull of a ship.
According to the invention Vthe concrete is applied on a frame that is left in the concrete after it having served as support and form for the construction. Thus the entire weight of the construction will be reduced, and the framing serves also to strengthen the construction immediately after the erection, for instance during the launching of a new built concrete ship or the like, when the launching takes place before the concrete has hardened completely.
In the form shown in the drawing the framing or skeleton consists of a number of wooden logs l parallel with' each other and placed at some distance from each other, said logs being connected with each other in a suitable way and kept' from each other by means of wooden blocks 2 or the like placed a suitable distance from each other in order to procure interspaces between the logs for the application of the concrete mass and for effecting connecting material between the inner and outer concrete layers. The logs are placed in such a way in sets that their ends do not lie opposite each other but break joint, as shown in Fig. l. Reinforcement bars 3 are arranged at suitablev places and at a suitable distance from the logs on one or both sides of the framing, and these reinforcement bars are the concrete mass by means of cramps 5 or the like driven into the framing. On the sides of the framing, fo-r instance on its outside a wire netting 4L may be applied for keeping the concrete mass without using molds. After the concrete has been applied it is smoothed on the outside. The
vedges of the logs ought to be beveled, as
shown in the drawing, in order to strengthen the concrete parts in these places. Thus a construction is obtained consisting of a number of I-girders placed beside each other of which the webs consist of the concrete filled in between the logs.
By the new invention the advantage is gained that the reinforcement metal, the concrete mass and the wire netting easily, may be applied and kept 1n their positions during the filling of the concrete.
l/Vhat I claim as new and desire 4to secure by Letters Patent is:
A. ship hull comprising a concrete wall, a plurality of vertically spaced longitudinal sets of logs embedded within the wall near the central portion thereof, the logs in the different sets having their ends arranged to break joint, each log having its four corners beveled whereby the portions of the concrete wall between the logs are I-shaped in cross section for providing a construction which is strong and which positively interlocks with the logs, spacing blocks arranged between the sets of logs, substantially vertical reinforcing rods embedded in the inner and outer portions of the wall and arranged upon. opposite sides of the logs, means for tying the reinforcing rods to the logs, substantially horizontal reinforcing rods embedded in the wall and arranged between the outer beveled edges of the lo-gs, and a wire netting embedded in the outer portion of the wall and disposed outwardly of the outer substantially vertical reinforcing rods.
