Description

DISPLAY BOX.
, CASSIUS m. smirson, or cmcmmi'r OHIO.
. DISPLAY-BOX.
Specification of Letters fatent.
Patented Oct 28, 1919.
Application filed May 20, 1919. Serial No. 298,488.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CASSIIIS M. SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a box in which articles of merchandise may be packed for shipment and may be placed by the merchant readily in a position to display the merchandise in an attractive manner.
This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l, is a perspective view of a display box embodying my invention, in its closed position.
Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the cover of my box.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cover.
The box embodying my invention comprises a cover A and a tray B. The cover as a top (1, sides a a one end a and a tray retaining and supporting strip a. The sides a a have their corners a, a", cut at an angle. The tray retaining and supporting strip a forms with the sides a 0. the bottom a and the end a a housing for one end of the tray B, which is of a cross sectional dimension to fit snugly Within such housing Located centrally of the strip a is a longitudinal lug a.
The tray B is of a depth equal to the interior width of the sides a a and has in its bottom, to one side of the center, a transverse slot 6 which is of a size to fit snugly over the lug a.
ug y into the housing formed by the re- 1 taming and supporting strip a with the other parts of the cover. When it. is desired to remove the tray, the ends thereof are I readily grasped because of the cut-away corners a a' of the cover.
In placing the tray in display position, it is rested upon the supporting and retaining strip a, with the lug a engaging slot b. In this position the articles of merchandise are in a position to be-easily inspected.
The acts of placing my box in condition for shipment and for putting it in display position, are easily performed. In its display position it has an ornamental appearance and displays the merchandise to good eifect. Moreover because of the one end and the adjacent corner being removed, a good space is left upon the inside of the top of the cover for displaying advertising matter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A display box having a tray and a cover, the cover having a top, side pieces, an end piece and a tray retaining and supporting strip which has a central longitudinal lug' and forms with said parts of the box a housing, and a tray which is of dimensions to fit within the cover and having in its bottom, to one side of the center, a transverse slot adapted to engage the lug when the tray is placed in its display position.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto A subscribed my name this 19th day of May, 1919.
CASSIUS M. SIMPSON.
