DISPLAY BOX.
Application led July 12, 1928. Serial No. 651,089.
To all 'whom 'it may conoem Be it known that I, Orro C. HANTsCH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at 200 Washington Street. South Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in Display Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention. relates to new and useful improvements in display boxes and is especially adapted to be used by salesmen dealing in jewelers findings.
An important object of the invention is to provide a display box of the above mentioned type which is suitable for exhibiting dissimilar articles of manufacture with the different articles properly separated to facilitate a desired selection, further, to display printed illustrations and descriptive matter relating to the various articles in such a manner that an additio-nal price card or catalogue may be referred to for obtaining further information relating to the selected articles without disarranging or in any way disturbing the merchandise properly packed within the box,
A further object of the invention is to provide means for properly replenishing a displa box with various articles, the supply o which has been exhausted, due to a disposal of the same.
still further object of the invention isto provide means for packing jewelers findings in a display box 1n such a manner that the metallic articles will not lose their attractive appearance due to tarnishing.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will'be apparent during the course of the following-description.
In the accompanying drawing formin a part of this specificatlon and in which likenumerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 1s a plan view of the bottom portion of a display box with a removable tray pfositioned therewithin and a portion of the x cover shown in its open position Figure 2 is a transverse sectional View taken through line II-II of Fig. 1,
Figure 3 1s a plan view of a trans arent container with a portion of the cover roken away, the said transparent container being adapted for being positioned within the removable tray shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and
Figure 4 is an end elevational view, partly in section. of the transparent container shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 designates the bottom portion of the display box embodying this inventionwhich is provided with a hingedly connected cover portion 6 shown partially in an open position in Fig. 1 and in cross section in a closed position in Fig. 2. It is to be understood that thisdisplay box may be manufactured from any desired material and may be made in various shapes and sizes to properly adapt the s'ame to be used for displaying articles of manufacture in different lines of business.
Removably positioned Within the bottom portion 5 of this display box isa tra 7 that corresponds in plan view with the s ape of the bottom portion 5 and has suitably secured to opposite sides flexible finger tabs 8 adapted to be' employed for lifting the tray from the display box. There is further provided a second tray 9 that is adapted for being positioned within the lower portion 5 of the display box after the tray 7 has been placed therewithin and is intended to rest upon the top edges of the walls of the said tray 7. This tray 9 is intended to be of a similar shape and size to the tray 7 and is provided with flexible finger tabs 10 to be employed for removing the said tray from the bottom portion 5 of the display box.
Positioned within the tray 9 and restin upon the inner surface of the bottom wa of the same is a chart or information card 11 that is removably retained in its proper position by means -of the holding strips or blocks 12 which extend in parallelism with the end walls of the said tray and frictionally engage the front and rear walls at their ends. It will be seen that when a new chart or information card is to be positioned within the tray 9, the holding strips or blocks 12 may be easily removed, the old card taken out of the tray, and a new card put in its place. By replacing the holding stri s or blocks 12, this new chart is securely he d in position.
There is shown in detail in Figs. 3 and 4 a form of transparent container which consists of a bottom section 13 that is telescopically positioned within the top or cover section 14 which is preferably pmvided with cutout portions 15 formed in opposite side walls :for better enabling the said cover la to be removed from the bottom portion 13. lt will be seen by examining Figs. l and 2 that these transparent containers are adapted to be positioned within the tray 9 upon the chart or infomation card l1, also that they may be made of different sizes as is illustrated by the row of large receptacles positioned at the rear side of the tray and the tour rows of smaller sized receptacles positioned within the remaining portion of the same. To :turtheri illustrate a suitable form of transparent container that may be employed, the container A has been provided with a. series of cylindrically-shaped relatively small compartments -arwhich are adapted for receiving exceptionally small articles or tindings. lt is, of course, to be understood that any desired number of the remaining 'transparent containers may be of the Jiorm shown and designated by the character A.
Referring again to the chart or information card il, there is intended to be illustrated in Fig. l that the same is divided into sections corresponding in size and shape to the containers positioned within the tray, further, that thedid'erent sized containers are arranged to match with the diii'erent sized sections. There have been two containers removed at B-B to better set forth this fact, also to more clearly disclose the illustrations and descriptive matter that is printed in the sections of the said chart. rlhis printed metter is intended to illustrate the particular kind of article to be placed within the transparent container positioned upon that particular section, and to describe the same in any desired terms. rlhe .transparent containers re- 'erred to by the characters C--C are intended to illustrate the general appearance of all of the containers wherein the proper articles have been placed within those positioned upon the sections having reference to such articles. lt will be seen that the articles are visible through the transparent covers of the containers, also that the illustrations and descriptive matter are visible even while the containers are in position.
While there has been heretoore no reference made to the particular material of which the transparent containers are to be constructed, it is intended that a pyronylin be used which contains camphor as an ingredient. The reason for this preerence is that the camphor will prevent jewelers or other metallic findings from tarnishing and thereby losing their attractiveness.
It will be understood that when the various transparent containers are suitably su plied with the dilerent findings or artic es of merchandise and are positioned upon the sections of the chart having referenoe to such articles, a perspective cusneonato temer may readily make a' selection of articles desired by him lor sale or he may very quickly match up articles that he might de sire or repair work. The information printed within the various sections of the chart or card will greatly aid the salesman when he desires to refer to an additional price card or catalogue for obtaining turther information relating to the selected articles. Such selecting or articles and obtaining catalogue prices and information may be obtained without necessitating the removal oit the transparent containers trom the tray 9.
lt is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example oit the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit oit the invention or the scope ot the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, ll claim l. A display box oi the class described, a chart or information card divided into sections positioned within said box, reference indicia placed in said sections, and transparent containers adapted for receiving articles of manufacture corresponding with i said indicia positioned upon said sections whereby said articles and said reference indicia may be viewed simultaneously through said containers.
2. in a display box of the class described, a chart or information card removably positioned within said box, said chart being divided into a plurality o sections, reference indicia placed in said sections, and transparent containers adapted for receiving articles of manufacture corresponding with said indicia removably positioned upon said chart in alinement with said sections whe-reby said articles and reference indicia may be viewed simultaneously without necessitating the removal of said containers.
