Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28', 1919.
Application filed November 30, 1918.. Serial No. 264,823..
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. BLAKE, a citizen of the United States,.residi'ng at Lancaster, in the county of Fairfield, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tramming Devices and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in milling machines and particularly to tramming devices therefor.
One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device which will readily indicate to the miller when the rolls are out of tram.
Another object is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which can be easily and quickly operated while the mill is running, to place the rolls in tram.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
On the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention, portions of the grinding rolls and supportsbeing shown in connection therewith.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 and 11 represent the upper portions of the bearings of the grinding rolls 12 and 13, and 14: and 1 5 the lower portions secured together by the screws 16. These brackets are vertically adjustable by means of tram screws commonly employed for this purpose, but are not shown herein. Disposed on the upper side of the bearing 10 is a vertical member 17 having a vertical rectangular opening 18 therethrough for the reception of the clamping screw 19. Formed on the upper end of the member 17, and extending horizontally in a direction toward the other roll 13, is an arm 20 having an opening 21 formed transversely through the outer end thereof. The elements 17, 19, and 20 thus form a carrier for the index finger to be referred to later. A similar member 22 is disposed on the upper side of the bearing 11 and has the elongated opening 23 formed vertically therethrough for the reception of the clamping screw 24:. It will be noted that these screws 19 and 24 are screwed into the upper porelongated slot 2 6 therethrough. These elements form the carrier for the. scale-to be,
.referred to later. An index finger 27 has one end pivotally supported by a screw or bolt 28 disposed through the end of the arm 20. A bolt 29 is disposed through the index finger 27 and through the slot 26, the outer end of the index finger 27 being disposed to traverse the scale 30 formed on the member 22.
When the bearing of the roll 13 drops below its normal or tramming position, the index finger 27 will be moved downwardly by the bolt 29 so that the outer end of the index finger. will be disposed over one of the lower marks of the scale. The miller then adjusts the tramming screw or screws to raise the roll or lower the other roll so that the tramming of the rolls will be proper.
Thus the miller can readily and quickly see when the rolls are out of tram, and know instantly which of the tram screws to adjust to bring the rolls back into tram.
By means of the clamping screws the miller can adjust the members 17 and 22 on the bearings 10 and 11, to true up the indicator. The slots of the members 17 and 22 readily permit them to be moved around the peripheral faces of the bearings.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with the bearings of a pair of grinding rolls of a milling machine, of a pair of members adjustably mounted on the bearings and movable toward and away from each other, a scale carried by one of the members, and an index finger movably connected to one of the members and operatively connected to the other member whereby said index finger will be moved over the face of the scale to indicate the positions of the bearings and rolls car- 3. A tramming attachment for grinding mill rolls comprising an index finger having means for pivotally connecting it with one member to be trammed, and a scale member for connection with another member to be trammed With its 'scale in cooperative relation to the index finger, the scale member also having pivotal connection With the index finger and the latter being movable over the scale under the influence of correlative movement of the scale member and the connecting means for the index finger.
4:. A tramming attachment for grinding mill rolls comprising a carrier for attachment to one member to be trammed, a scale carrier for attachment to another member to be trammed, and an index finger pivotally supported on the first carrier and pivotally engaged with the second carrier for traversing the said scale upon movement of one of the members to be trammed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
