CULTIVATOR STANDARD.

This invention relates to improvements in cultivator standards, and it is the principal object of' the invention to provide a device for connecting a shovel standard to a beam of' extremely simple and inexpensive construction allowing a sett-ing of the plow or sweep to the right or left without the necessity of dropping or slipping up or down the foot piece thereof by a simple rotation of the spool-holder in which said foot piece is held.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a cultivator standard the beam of which is adjustably arranged relatively to the standard.

)l further object of the invention is the provision of a cultivator standard which is strong, durable and eflicient, and one in which the several parts will not be likely to get out of order.

With the above and other objects in view which will become more fully apparent as the description thereof proceeds, the invention has relation to certain novel features of construction and operation, one example of which is described and illustrated, and which will be specifically set forth in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a cultivator standard constructed according to my invention, partly in section.

In the practical embodiment of my invention, the beam is attached by means of' loops 11, 11 or the like suitable means to an adjustable clamping block 12 by means of nuts 13 or the like, adapted to enga' e the upper threaded ends of' the loop shan s 14 projecting above the block 12 by the intermediary of suitable washer discs 15 or the like.

The adjustable clamping block 12 has a body U-shaped in cross-section and equipped with upper flanges 16, 17 to form a guide channel for the tail-piece 18 of the cultivator head 19.

A bolt 20 has an upper head 21 supported by a disk 22 resting on the upper face of the tail-piece 18 which has a longitudinally Seria-1. No, 38,529;

extending slot 23 formed therein through which the bolt extends and carries at its lower, threaded end a nut 24 for locking the block in any of its relative adjusted positions on the tail-piece.

The eultivator head 19 is made in two parts connected by bolts 25, 26 or the like, passing through flanges 27, 28 and 30, 31 and resting with their heads and 26 against the inner face of the head 19. These bolts are held in place by means of nuts 32 and 33 or the like.

A spool 34, having an upper flange 35, and a lower flange 36, is passed through a suitable opening formed in head 19. The spool has also a centrally located, vertically extending opening 37 therein for the reception of a foot-piece or standard 38 to the lower end ot which the plow share 39 or cultivator tool is attached as at 40.

The standard 38 is loosely guided through the opening 37 and vertically displaceable ther-ein. A set screw 41 passes through a suitable transverse bore in the head 19 into engagement with the standard 38, while a A similar set screw 42 passes through the lower flange 36 of the spool which for this purpose has a transverse bore, into engagement with the standard 38 in order to allow a locking of the vsame in its vertical adjusted l position with respect to the spool 34 which can be turned within its bearing to the right or left norder to set the plow share or sweep at any desired angle. The spool can then be locked in this adjusted position by the proper operation of set screw'41.

The operation of my simple device will be entirely clear from the above description without the necessity of .further detailed explanation, and it is to be understood, that while I have shown as an example the preferred form of my cultivator standard, such changes may be made in the general arrangement of the device and in th specific construction of its minor details as fall within the scope of' the appended claim, without departure from the spirit of my invention and the principle involved.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A device for connecting a shovel standard to a beam, comprising a clamping block having a transverse groove on its lower side and llongitudinal U-sha'ped groove on its upper side, inwardly extending` flanges oarried by the upper side forming a channel with the U-groove, a slotted tail piece adapted to slide in said channel, a bolt engaging the block and the tail piece through seid slot for udjustably clamping the tail piece to the block, a head at the free end of the tail piece adapted to Carry a shovel standard, the block having openings disposed at the ends and on opposite sides o' the transverse groove7 U-shaped bolts adapted to engage through said openings for clan'lpng the block to a beam.
