Description
UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
AMos `MALLCEY7 on MYsTIC BRIDGE, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN EARTH-CLOSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,694., dat-ed September 24, 1872.
` Tocll 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Anios MALLORY, of Mystic Bridge, town of Stonington, county of New London, State of Connecticut, have invented certain Improvements in Earth-Closets, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates tothe mode of depositingthe earth in the receptacle of the earthcloset by means of a slide with an inclined opening, which inclined opening receives the earth from the reservoir and deposits it in the receptacle, said slide being moved to and fro, receiving and depositing the earth` by means of a pin in the drawer, which acts upon the slide through flanges attached to the slide.
`The accompanying drawing represents an earth-closet (closed) embodying my improvement or invention. c
A is the reservoir containing the earth; F, the slide. B is the inclined opening in slide. G is the stationary division. H is the opening through which the earth is deposited. I is the seat. E is the receptacle. D is the drawer. J is the pin in drawer D, which moves F by means of the dangesK K attached to the slide. O is the opening in the back for'air to escape When closing the drawer. When the closet is `the inclined opening B being over the opening H. When the closet is used the drawer D is 'pulled forward; the pin J, by the motion of the drawer, acts upon the iianges K K, moving the slide F forward -so that the inclined opening B comes under the reservoir and is thus filled with earth. By the closing of the drawerD the pin J again acts upon the flan ges K K, pushing the slide F backward so that the inclined opening B comes over the opening H, thus depositing the earth in the receptacle. Second, by means of the opening 0 in back I am enabled to close and draw outthe drawer D without resistance of the atmosphere."
I make no claim for the drawer; but
I claim as my invention- The slide F, when constructed with the inclined opening B and anges K K, and arranged to operate in combination with theres- .eI-voir A, stationary division G, and drawer' D,
as shown and described.
` AMOS MALLORY.
