Be. it known, that I, Aoeosr MELAN- Torn, asubject oi the King'ofSweden, residing in tl'iefcity-a'ndcounty of'San Fran cisco, and'State of California, have invented certain"inew' and useful Improvements in Doo'r Stops of which the following is a i ni o -T lThe hereinafter described invention relates new and useifiil iinprovenients door. stops and particularly to, type of; \door stop which will limit-the opening of the'door, when negate-sorta undesirables cannot forcelan entrancejupon the door be ing' open to adniitfof theirfinspection. v 4
. The invention has: for its princi p al object having an enlargedi'end adapted to enter a groove in a.fiooraplat'e and .to' provide said stop with an eccentrically mounted operating means extending within 1 easy reach or the Operator and by theoperatmg of whlch the enlarged end ofthe step may bereadily inserted into or withdrawn froIn'xthje floor 7 plate "when the door is in .properapositiony The invention consists of adoor boltoriplunger attachedon the inner side of a door 1 adjacent the lower edge thereof and having an enlarged lower end, a; casing which said "bolt is mounted to reciprocate,jan operating umeans for said'bolt, and an open 1 ended slotted plate adapted to be secured to the floor adjacent thedo'or and into which said enlarged head is adapted to be inserted? and slide, the slot in said plate llmiting the movement ofthe door when theenlarged head is inserted therein.
WVith thea'bove mentioned and other objects in view'the inventionconsists in the l "novel 'construction and combination of parts,
outlmy invention Figure -1 isa front'eleva-i tion ofthe insidei ofa door having my ini proved device attached thereto and in coop? erative relation with the slotted floorplate,
hereinafter fully described, illustrated the accompanyingdrawings, and polnted out it in the claims hereto appended.
Referring to the drawings completely constructed device forcarrying disclosing a anddisclosing in full lines the. enlarged bolt head withdrawn from the floor plate, and
in'jdottedllines the position of the several. parts when theenlarged head is seated in I mounted, the'bolt' being inserted inthe slot iri .thefloorplate. Fig. 3 is a plan view of -the floor plate disclosing the ,arcuate slot therein and the enlarged opening atone end, thereof forithe {reception of the; enlarged head of the. securing bolt when the doorisf in its closed position. Figx liis an-:enlarged' I sectionalw'iewof the securing bolt'and the" casing andsprlng surroundingth'e same.
Referring more particularly to thedraw l ings, the reference numeral-"1 designates a} suitable door, hinged" asfat 2 to swing on the door casing as are and having" attached to thefinn'er side thereof adj acent its bottom edge and arranged near the free edge there- I offian oblong'metallic casing lfopen at its"v llower end and provided with afsinall ope -i ing 5 at its upper endthrough whichextends the upper cylindrical portionti'jofy ajf substantially rectangularplunger 7. Tlie'casmg 4" is providecbwith. laterally extending flanges 8 through which ex tend suitable 5 screws 9-which attach the casing to the'door .as in Fig. 1 ofthe drawings fl .for a hereinafter described purpose.
I .P'vjotally connected through an eye 12 in l the upper end ofthecylindrical portion 6 of the plunger 7 is the lower end of an operating rod 18, theupper end of which is pivotally mounted to a stud 14: projecting outwardly from an operating lever 15 midway of its length; The lever 15 is pivoted at its lower endto a stud 16 projecting from the lower edge of asecuring plate 17 attached to the door directly above the casing 1, and the plate is provided at its upper edge with an outstanding lug or projection 18 arranged at an anglelto the center of said plate. An
' Surroundingthe cyllndrical portion A metallic plate 20 is secured over an opening inthe floor 21 immediately. below the plunger 7 and said plate is provided with av longitudinally extending curved slot 22, closed at its rear end, and at its front end communicating with an enlarged open ing 23, through. which is adapted to extend suitable laterally projecting-arms 24 ,arranged one on either-side of the plunger-'7 adjacent its lower end. The plate when in position is arranged with the enlarged opening 23 immediately, below the plunger when the door is in a closed position; and with the curved slot projecting in the direction of theswing of the door.
From the above description it will be observed that when the operating lever 15 isin' a'position abutting against theprojection 18, the plunger will be withdrawn from the opening 23 of the plate20, but the plunger can only be withdrawn from the openingwhen the door is in a closedposition, It will also be observed that avlien the door is closed and the lever 15 is swung to the point A, that the spring 11' will force the arms 24 downwardly into the opening 23 and that the door can only be opened to the limit of j the slot 22, the'edges of theslot' preventing thQ'WlthClIflWal of the'arms 24,.
Copies this patent may be obtained for 'By; the employment of my improved construction itwill be noted that it is impossibleffor an undesirable to forcethe door froniwithoutas the plunger cannot be rem oved. frointhe plateuntil'the door is in a closed' position, and p it will also be noted that should an undesirable partly open the door and surreptitiously remove everyscrew from the device permitting the door to swing limit the opening of thedoor. and :the 'same could not be removedlfrom the plate until the door is closed and when the door is in a closed position it is impossible 'for a person from'without to operate. w
7 Having thus fully described myiinvention what is claimed as new and. desired to be protected by Letters Patent isfreely, that the plunger would continue to I In a door stop; the combination with a;
casing mounted on the interior 'ofthe door, a plunger mounted to reciprocate in said casing; arms projecting laterally from the lower end of said plunger, means associated v with theup'per end of said plunger for oper-' ating the same, a'stationary floor 'plate mounted adjacent the doorwhen in a closed position for cooperation with said plunger and provided at oneend at a point below thelimit the opening of the door:whensaid plun ger is inserted therein.
