Description

} c. VERNIAU. D & w; 'SPE NYCE R.
improvement in Percussion- Cap-Holders.
Patented Sep.24,1872.
GLAUDIUS VEBNIAUD AND WILLIAM SPENCER, OF LA GRANGE, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT 'IN PERCUSSlON-CAP HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,642, dated September 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GLAUDIUS VERNIAUTD and WILLIAM SPENCER, of La Grange, in the county of Lewis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Percussion-Cap Holders, which are p simpleand reliable in operation; and the object of which is to improve the means whereby a convenient device is provided for carrying caps and putting them upon the nipple of the gun; and it consists in making the disks heretofore used for that purpose each of one solid piece of rubber, so that the disks will, by reason of their construction, remain firmly in place, and also in improving the construction of the parts, whereby a more convenient and compact device is furnished; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing,'with letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side or top view of a device embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken through line a; w, Fig.1.
I11 the drawing,Arepresentsacentralflanged a tube, with two round disks of rubber, B B, each quired to be used the holder is seized and one of the caps is placed upon the nipple, by
l pressing the holder against the nipple. The holder is then pulled laterally, so that the cap is drawn from the holder through the slot 0. By the use of the rubber for the disks B B it is not necessary to have the disks slit toward the center of the disks from the cap-holes D, as is required where leather or other material is used. By this means the outsides of the disks are always held in position, as would not be the case were the disks slit from the capholes D toward the center, as the sections would then be liable to rise up and not hold the caps securely in place. By the use of the rubber for the disks, the material contains sufficient elasticity, so that slits need not be made only from the cap-holes D outward, as shown; and by this construction and material the outer sides of the disks are always in position, and the caps held securely in place.
-By having the flanges h h of the tube A resting upon the disks their entire length, as shown, the disks are held firmly in place, while the central tube A furnishes an eyelet-rivet, by which the device may be suspended without the use of a frame; or, if the cap-holder is not desired to be suspended by a cord, as is frequently the case, it may be conveniently carried in the pocket, which could not be done if an awkward frame was attached.
We do not broadly claim a cap-holder having disks with perforations near the outside for holding caps; but
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, the cap-holder having the rubber disks B having the slits e only, and the open central tube A and flanges h h bearing upon the disks their entire length, all constructed and arranged as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
