Description

T. L. ODELL 8L1; c HUDSON.
Improvement in Wall-Paper Show-Cases.
No. 130,738. Patented Aug. 20, 1872" 745 melmeo" fzzvwzi r/k K LQQM/ 9 g way 5% m M i I Unrrnn THOMAS L. ODELL AND JOSEPH O, HUDSON, OF IOIVA FALLS, IOWA.
o IMPROVEMENT IN WALL=PAPER SHW=CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. ifithflgg, dated August 20, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THonAs L. ODELL and J osnrn G. HUDSON, of Iowa Falls, in the county of Hardin and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall-Paper Show-Case and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for exhibiting samples of wallpaper, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a transverse vertical section, of our device. Fig. 3 shows a modification of the same.
A represents an upright case of any suitable dimensions, provided with a glass-door, B, and supported by legs 0 G. In this case are placed two rollers, D D, one near the top and the other near the bottom, around which rollers the samples of wall-paper are wound. The journal on one end of each roller fits into a hole in one side of the case, while the other journal, a, is extended and drops into a slot in the other side of the case, and is at its extreine end provided with a crank, E, for turning the same. By means of these slots the rollers can readily be taken out and other rollers with other samples of wall-paper substituted.
The rollers are kept in their places by brakes G G operating against the journals to a of the rollers. These brakes may be placed on the outside of the ease, as shown in Fig. 1, or on the inside, as shown in Fig. 3. They also tighten the rollers enough to give the paper tension enough to keep it straight and taut.
. The samples of wall-paper after being glued together in a straight strip, have cloth glued or pasted on the ends with slits cut in said cloth so as to hook or button on pins in'the rollers, so that the samples of the paper may be removed from the rollers, if necessary; or the paper may be furnished with a straight band of cloth or other strong material, glued or otherwise attached in the center of the strip, of different kinds of paper to be exhibited, if desired.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
. The case formed of the sides A and 0, glass door 13 with the rollers D D--one at the top and the other at the bottom of the case-cranks E E, journals or a, and brakes G G, the several parts being constructed and arranged substantially as herein set forth, and for the purpose described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own invention we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
' THOMAS LEWIS ODELL.
JOSEPH omnron HUDSON.
