WORK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 9, 1919.
Application filed January 17, 1918. Serial No. 212,264.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD MATI-IIAS PETERS, a citizen of Austria, residin at DHanis, in the county of Medina and tate of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvments in Work-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in work holders and more particularly to bolt or rivet holders and its object is to provide simple practical means for securely holding a bolt, rivet or the like against movement while it is being operated upon, that is filed, threaded or shortened. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of the specification and in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved work holder applied to a work bench.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1 showing a rivet held thereby.
Fig. 3 is an end view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of a slightly modified form of holder bar employed.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My improved device comprises a holder bar the body portion 1 of which is straight and flat and is formed with a plurality of perforations 2 of a variety of shapes and sizes to receive the shanks and necks of bolts, rivets and the like to be operated upon. The body portion 1 shown in Fig. 4 differs from that shown in the other figures only in the shape and relative position of the perforations formed therein. The body portion 1 is formed with a short bent end 3 formed with a perforation 4 and with a relatively long bent end 5 disposed parallel to the end 3 and formed with a relatively large perforation 6, the said end 5 being itself formed with a bend 7 and then adapted to be secured by bolts 8 to the work bench 9.
The bolt or rivet 10 under operation is introduced, shank first, through the perforation 2 that will snugly receive the neck portion 11 of the bolt. When the bolt or rivet is in the position shown in Fig. 2 the wedge bar 12 is introduced into the perforations 4, 5 of the bent ends 3, 5 when it will contact with the r1vet head and hold the rivet firmly against the action of gravity, one perforated portion ,of the body 1 of the holder bar preventing rotation or play of the bolt or rivet while it is being operated upon. When the operation upon the bolt or rivet is completed the wedge bar 12 is withdrawn and the rivet or bolt readily removed.
What is claimed is A work holder comprising a slotted and perforated strap bent to form at one end a slotted arm and at the other a longer slotted arm and a foot-piece, and a removable wedge inserted in the slots in said arms.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD MATI-IIAS PETERS.
