nuewto'ob HOME@ B, 'JACOB HARRY G. KEEGHNEE l UNITED STATES' .OFFICE HoMEn Bf'JAeoBs ANDlHARRY G. kanonnen, sporters ntioniGAN. i v
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, HoMER B. JAooBs and HARRY G. KERCHNER, citizens of the United States, residing at Sturgis, county of St. Joseph, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sounding Toys, of which the following is a specification.
Thisk invention relates to improvements in sounding toys.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved sounding toy which is attractive to children and convenient to operate. f
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
We accomplish the objects of our invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention Ais clearly defined and pointed out in the claims. l A structure whlch 1s a preferred embodiment of our invention is clearly illustrated 25y i part of this speciiication, in which:
in the accompanying drawing, forming a Figure I is a side view of a toy embodyl ing the features of our invention.
Fig. II is a detail side view with portions of the housing broken away to show the arrangement of the striker. o
Fig. III is an enlarged detail section on a y line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. I.
In 4the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, the body 1 1s in the form of a gun, the butt 2 of the gun constituting the handle of the toy.
` In front of the handle of the toy we provide a housing 3 opening downwardly. The
standard 4 is secured at the front end of the housing, the standard being bifurcated at its lowerend toreceive the carrying wheel 5. The wheel 5 is provided with a ]ournal 6 extending between the arms of the standard.
The wheel 5 has a peripheral groove for the belt 7. In the housing 3 we mount a pulley 9 grooved at 10 to receive the belt. On this pulley is a staple 11 engaging the eye 12 of the striker 13 so that the striker 1s loosely mounted on the pulley. The impact member or gong 14 is mounted on the standard to project into thehousing,

so that as the pulley revolves the striker strikes the impact member and this without regard to the direction in which the pulley is rotated.
Our improved toy is simple and economical in structure and at the same time attractive to children and convenient to use. In use the toy is designed to be trundled along on the ground or other surface, thereby driving the wheel 5 and, through the connection described, actuating the sounding device.
lVe have illustrated the body in the form of a gun but it will be understood that this may be greatly modified or changed.
Having thus described our invention, what we claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a sounding toy, the combination of a body member provided with a handpiece and with a housing open on its under side, a bifurcated wheel standard, a carrying wheel mounted between the arms of said standard, said wheel having a peripheral groove, a grooved pulley mounted in said housing, a belt connecting said wheel and pulley, an impact member mounted on said standard to project into said housing, a striker provided with an eye, and a staple on said pulley engaging said eye whereby said strikerl is loosely mounted to strike Said impact member as the pulley is revolved.
2. In a sounding toy, the combination of a body member provided with a handpiece and with a housing open on its under side, a bi.- furcated wheel standard, a carrying wheel mounted between the arms of said standard, said wheel having a peripheral groove, a grooved pulley mounted in said housing, a belt connecting said carrying wheel and pulley, an impact member, and a striker mounted on said pulley to strike said impact member as the pulley is revolved.
3. In a sounding toy, the combination of a body member, a wheel standard, a carrying wheel mounted on said standard, a pulley mounted in said housing, a belt connecting said carrying wheel and pulley, an impact member, a striker provided with an eye, and a staple on said pulley engaging said eye whereby said striker is loosely mounted to strike said impact member as the pulley is revolved.
4L. In a sounding toy, the combination of a body member, a wheel standard, a carrying IllO
