To all whom it may concem Be it known that I, STEPHEN KELTONIK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Punxsutawney, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Container, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to containers particularly desi 'ned for holding powders, selves, and other substances likely to deteriorate and evaporate from exposure to the air.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a container adapted to be removably mounted in a pigeon hole which can be located in a cabinet or the like, said container being provided with a closure of novel form adapted, when the container is in its normal position, to press tightly on the container, thereby to render it airtight.

A further object is to provide a closure carrying means for engaging the top of the pigeon hole or other housing provided for the container, thereby to press said closure yieldingly on the container.

A further object is to provide pressure means so mounted as to distribute the pressure to the closure at such points as to insure sealing of the container throughout the length and breadth thereof.

Another object is to provide a closure having a pull device extending therefrom, the closure being so constructed as to draw the container outwardly therewith from its housing when the pull device is grasped and pulled outwardly.

A still further object is to provide means whereby rubbing of the closure upon a sealing gasket provided therefore is prevented.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and'claimed it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

In said drawings Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section of a portion of a case having the present improvements combined therewith.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference A designates a housing which may be divided into' noncommunicating pigeon holes B each of which is adapted to receive a container such as constitutes the present invention. Each container includes a body 1 in the form of a drawer or box and which 15 provided along its side edges with rabbets 2 providing ledges 3 in which are formed, at regular intervals, tapered recesses 4.

Mounted on the body 1 is a closure 5 preferably formed on thin sheet metal which can be resilient, this closure being provided with depending side aprons 6 adapted to extend into the rabbets 2 and having outstanding longitudinal flanges 7 designed to rest on the ledges 3. Tapered studs 8 are struck downwardly from the flanges 7 and are adapted to fit loosely in the recesses 4.

Formed integral with one end of the closure 5 is a tongue 9 which extends downwardly from the closure as indicated at 10 and thence is curved rearwardly and upwardly and extends along the top of the closure for a short distance as shown at 11. The tongue is then bowed as at 12, its free end being slightly upturned as at 13 and forming a point of contact with the closure.

Extending downwardly and forwardly from the front end of the closure is a pull device 14 which is preferably of the same width as the closure and normally bears against the front end of the body 1.

It will be apparent that when the container is in its housing the bowed portion 12 of the tongue 9 will engage the top of the housing and thus cause the tongue to press downwardly on the closure at two points with the result that said closure will bear firmly on the body of the container and seal it. If desired a gasket 15 can be interposed between the closure and the body 1.

When it is desired to'remove the container so as to give access to its contents, the pull device 14 is grasped and drawn forwardly. The depending portion 10 of the tongue 9, which engages the back wall of the container body will compel said body to move forwardly and the tongue 9 will likewise move forwardly out of the pigeon hole. As soon as the container has been withdrawn from its housing the front end of the closure can be lifted from the body, and the closure slid on top of the" other and the bowed portion 12 ofthe tongue will move to position in engagementwith the top wall of the housingand thus be placed under compression and clamp the closure upon the body and seal it.

A device such as herein described is particularly designed for use in drug stores and other places where some materials are stored in small quantities indefinitely and must be kept airtight to prevent deterioration and evaporation.
