. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP MUELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Drinking-Fountains, of which the following is a specification. 1
The present invention relates to sanitary drinking fountains of that type in which a, bubbler head is provided from which, when the valve is operated, a drinking streamer jet is projected to a point above the bubbler head convenient for drinking, andthe user will not be likely to bring his mouth in contact with the bubbler head.
In order, however, to further guard against possible touching of the lips to the bubbler head and increase the sanitary features of these devices, I have provided a guard so plaeed with respect to the orifice from. which the drinking stream issues that the user cannot in the ordinary'position of drinking place the mouth in contact with the head, and furthermore, this fountain is so designed thattheuseris protected from splashing or drip, and the entire structure is so designed that all objectionable crevices are eliminatechthe lodgment of contaminating matter guarded against, and, finally a thorough and efi'ective wash of all of the parts is secured by the construction which I have devised.

The fitting lOis provided with a valve and valve operating means, as handle 11, by which the flow of the drinking stream is controlled.
;The supply pipe 10 isprovided at its de livery end with a fitting 12 having a vertical delivery'passage 13 therein, and havin as well, suitable means for securing the limbbler head in place, these means in the present instance comprising lugs 14 which engage ofi'set openings 15 in the bottom of the bubbler head, as shown in' Fig. 4, so that the lugsl l on the upstanding neck 16 of the fitting 12 will enter these apertures and by giving the parts a quarter turn the lugs 14 will engage a groove 17 in the bubbler head and secure the parts firmly together, any suitable cement or binder being used to give a tight joint.
The bubbler head 18 is preferably, though not necessarily, formed of vitreous material, as, for example, porcelain, and is preferably spherical in form so as to give a smooth, unbroken surface without crevices therein, although it may bevaried as to form to a considerable degree, the main desideratum being that the head resent a smooth, unbroken surface devoid of sharp angles and crevices. Projecting outwardly andv upwardly from one side of the head 18 is the guard 19, substantially in the form of a half cup, this shell 19 being placed on that side of the bubbler head 18 from which the fountain is used, so as toprovide a guard which will prevent the user bringing the mouth in contact with the head 18, and, furthermore, receive the waste and divert it away from the person drinking. The guard 19 joins the head 18 by smoothcurved joints, there being no interstices for the lodgment and retention of contaminating matter, and the top or rim 20 of the guard 19 is smoothly rounded, and its juncture with the guard 19 is by means of smooth, unbroken curves, so that all sharp angles tending to form crevices are eliminated. The guard 19 is referably connected to the surface of the cad 18 at a point above a horizontal plane passing throu h the center of the head.
It will e observed that the top or rim 20 of the guard 19 is bulged or enlarged somewhat sothat it is thicker than the wall of the guard 19, as shown in Figs. 3, 7 and 8, and that its ends 21 project overand beyond the edge of the guard wall 19, this edge 22 curving downwardly and. slightlyu-rear wardly to the body 18, all of these sections joining each; other {on ,smooth, unbroken curves so as to eliminate any sharp angles or crevices.

A bubbler head for sanitary drinking fountains, comprising a body portion having a drinking stream outlet, the walls of said body portion sloping outwardly and downwardly from said outlet, and a substantially half cup-shaped imperforate splashpreventing guard extending outwardly and upwardly from one side of said body portion, the side edges of said guard curving inwardly toward each other and downwardly to said body portion -to provide overhanging projections at the top of said guard.
5. A bubbler head for sanitary drinking fountains, comprising a body portion having a drinking stream outlet, and an imperforate splash-preventing guard of substantially half cup-shape formed integral with said body portion and Projecting outwardly and upwardly from one side of said body portion.

A bubbler head for sanitary drinking fountains, comprising a body portion, substantially spherical in shape, and provided with a drinking stream outlet at its top, and an imperforate splash-preventing guard of substantially half cup shape formed intogral with said body portion and extending outwardly and upwardly from said spherical body portion to a point above the top of said body portion.

A bubbler head for sanitary drinking fountains having a body portion of substantially spherical shape provided with a drinking stream outlet therein, and an imperforate splash-preventing guard of substantially half cup shape integral with said body portion, and joined thereto on curved lines so as to eliminate abrupt angles and crevices.

A bubbler head for sanitary drinking fountains, comprising a body portion having a substantially spherical top and a drink ing stream outlet therein, an imperforate splash preventing guard of substantially half-cup shape extending outwardly and upwardly from one side of said body portion to a point above the top of said body portion, said guard having a thickened i11- wardly projecting top or rim substantially circular in cross section, and the side edges of said guard sloping inwardly toward each other and downwardly to the body portion to form overhanging projections at the top of the guard.
10. .A bubbler head for sanitary drinking fountains, comprising a spherical body portion of vitreous material having a drinking stream passage therethrough, an imperforate guard formed integral with said body portion and extending outwardly and upwardly from one side thereof, and a connecting member secured to the bottom of said body portion, said member having therethrough a drinking stream passage and provided with a cone shaped projection at its bottom to collect and solidify the waste water coming from the bubbler head. y
