UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ATTACHMENT Specification of Letters Patent.
FOR CLOSETS.
Patented June 11,1907.
Application filed September 20, 1906. Swim 335,440.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCIS MARION JACOB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Lowndes and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Closets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in attachments for closets, and the main ob jects in view are economy, in the use of water, as it requires less water to flush it, and further to attain a saving in the cost of toilet paper, as this invention is intended as a means for dispensing with the use of toilet paper and other material used for that purpose.
With the foregoing objects .in view, I attain simplicity, durability, economy and effectiveness, and myinvention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective, Fig.2 is a section through the cup and fixture, Fig. 3 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 1 is an enlarged sec tional view through the stuffing gland.
A, represents an ordinary bowl, 1 is the seat, 2 the lid or cover, and 3 is the tank, which latter may be of any approved size and capacity, but which it is possible to make of a greatly reduced size. This tank is operated in any convenient manner, as for instance, by the pull 4.
The numeral 5 indicates a supply pipe used for discharging a jet of water into the bowl. From this supply pipe, a branch pipe 6 extends horizontally over the edge of the bowl, and is adapted to be located and is ca pable of being swung between the bowl and the seat, the seat being provided with rubbers 7, 7, whereby to support it in the usual manner upon the rim of the bowl. The branch pipe 6 preferably has a dip S in it, wherebyit is dropped down sufficiently far into the bowl for the cup 10 to be out of the way. The discharge end of the branch pipe 6 is provided with a fixture 9, and a cup 10 is seated on this fixture where it is preferably held by the discharge nozzle 11, which is screwed to the nipple 12, whereon both the nozzle and cup are removably held. The function of this cup is to surround the parts or part to be washed, and it is provided with outlets 13, 13 for the drainage of the water therefrom, and the nozzle 11 discharges a cup against the parts to be washed. The fixture 9 is provided with a drainage duct 14 to prevent water from being caught and frozen in the fixture.
The branch pipe is connected to the main pipe by a coupling 0, and this comprises preferably, a sleeve 15 which is screwed to a thread 16 on the upper end of pipe 5. This sleeve is provided with a central nipple 17. Branch pipe 6 is enlarged at its lower end to enter the annular space 18 formed between the wall of the sleeve 15 and the nipple 17, and in the space above this enlargement packing rings 19, 19 are held by the gland 20 on the screw cap 2 1, which latter is screwed to the threads 22 on the upper end of the sleeve 15. By screwing the cap 21 down, the packing rings are compressed and a Water tight joint is provided. At the same time, the branch pipe 6 is capable of being swung laterally over the edge of the bowl to bring the cup and nozzle into the desired position. The screw valve 23 is provided within the tee 24 for controlling the discharge of water through the nozzle. Thus the user is enabled by placing the hand on the valve handle to not only turn the water on and oil, but also to swing the branch pipe with the cup at its end to the desired position for use. In this way, I have provided a simple and most effectual device for the purpose.
It is evident that the spray nozzle could be placed in a basin of any kind, and have a hose connected to it, and at the other end connected to a cock on a bathtub, lavatory, sink or any place where there is a water spigot. In this event it would simply be necessary to provide a stand for the cup to rest upon in the basin.
It is evident that many other slight changes might-be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction set forth; but;
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A closet attachment comprising a pipe having a fixture thereon and a cup and nozzle removably secured to the fixture, said cup surrounding the nozzle.
2. A closet attachment comprising a pipe having a fixture thereon, and a cup and nozzle removably secured to the fixture, said fix spray of water up through the center of the ture having an open drain duct in its lower end, and the cup surrounding the nozzle.
3. A closet attachment comprising a pipe, a fixture secured thereon, said fixture having a threaded nipple, a cup removably mounted on the nipple and a nozzle removably screwed to the threads of the nipple, whereby the nozzle and cup are held thereon. a 4. The combination with a main pipe, a
branch pipe and coupling, said branch pipe adapted to enter between a bowl and seat,
the branch pipe having a dip therein at or near its free end and provided with a nozzle and a cup surrounding the nozzle.
In testimony whereof I have signed my [5 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' FRANCIS MARION JACOB.
