To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WALTER L. LINDsA'Y, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar- Fasteners and Necktie-Guides, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a collar fastener and necktie slide or guide and has for its- 7 of adjustment.

An important object is the provision of a fastener of this character which is adapted for use either with collars of the standing typeor the turn down type without the ne- 'cessity of any alterations or additions to the collar, the tie guide member performing its function regardless of which type of collar the device is applied to.

Another object is the provision of a fastener of this character which is so constructed as to exert a clamping action upon the material of the collar below the button hole thereinso that the fastener will be maintained in proper position in respect to the collar and slipping prevented.

A still further object is the provision of a device of this character which is formed from a single strip of material cut and bent into the required shape.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be extremely simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easily applied, eflioient'in use, durable in service and a general improvement of the art.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Referring more particularly to the drawing my device is shown as being formed from a blank 1O of metal which is cut to provide a body portion 11, having extending therefrom a relatively long reduced extension 12 and which is out at its opposite end to provide an extension 13 disposed between tongues 14. In the formation of the device, the extension 12 is bent backwardly upon itself as shown at 15 to provide a substantially invented U-shaped .guide yoke, and the extension 13 is offset from the body 11 and bent upwardly upon itself as shown at 16 and terminates in an outwardly bent end 17. The extension 13 is thus formed into a hook the bight of which is disposed in nearly the same plane as the ends of the tongues 14 for a purposeto be hereinafter described. It will be noted that the guide member and the hook memberare substantially parallel and are disposed upon opposite sides of the body 11. The device is engaged with a collar A by inserting the point 17 of the hook member upwardly through the button hole B as far as it will go and then moving the device downwardly with the material at the lower edge of the button hole engaged between the bight of the hook member and the curved tongues 15. The material of the collar will thus be clamped firmly between the hook and these tongues so that the device will be held firmly in position and prevented from slipping. The body portion 11 of the device will then be disposed against the inner face of the front side of the collar together with the inverted U-shaped tie guide member. As previously stated, the material of the collar between its lower edge and the lower edge of the button hole will be clamped between the hook member and the tongues 14 and the hook member will be disposed upon the outer side of the inner portion of the collar. The neck tie may then be very readily inserted within the inverted U-shaped guide member which will prevent the inner and outer portions of the collar from clamping so tightly upon the neck tie as to prevent longitudinal movement thereof for purposes of adjustment. The point 17 of the hook member may be engaged under the edge of the usual pocket provided at the back of the neck band. l/Vhen the collar is thus applied, it will be effectively held in proper relation to the neck band of the shirt so that displacement of the collar will be prevented.

In the event that the device is used in connection with collars of the standing type instead of the turn down type, it will be readily apparent that the operation would be exactly the same as the hook member would extend from the front face of the collar and the tie guide member be disposed at the rear face thereof.

From the foregoing description and a study of the drawing it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simple device by means of which a collar may be secured upon a shirt band and which is provided with means whereby the usual neck tie may be held within the collar in such a way that it may be slid around the collar freely for purposes of adjustment.

Having thus described claim 1. A device of the character described comprising a body portion, an offset hook member formed integrally upon the intermediate portion of said body member and my invention I insertible through the button hole of a collar, clamping tongues formed on said body at the sides of said hook member and cooperating therewith and an inverted U-shaped guide yoke formed on the upper end of said body portion.

A device of the character described comprising a body portion, a hook member formed on the intermediate portion of said body member and offset therefrom with its point disposed upwardly, the lower end of said hook member terminating in a line with the lower end of said body member, clamping tongues formed on the side edges of said body member and cooperating with the lower portion of said hook member, said hook member being insertible through the button hole of a collar, and an inverted U- shaped guide member formed integrally upon the upper edge of Sfllld body member and having its lower end terminating in a line with the lower edge of said body member. y i p 3. A device of the character described comprising a strip of resilient material having its intermediate portion slit to provide a body portion and tongues disposed at the sides thereof, a hook member formed on the intermediate portion of said body member between the tongues and having its point extending upwardly, the lower-end of said hook member cooperating with the lower ends of said tongues, and an inverted U- shaped guide member formed integrally upon the upper edge of the body member and disposed at the side thereof opposite to said hook member.
