W. SENG. Improvement n Legs for Folding-Lounges.
N0. 131,031; 'Patented Sep.'3,1872.
Jamin/0 2' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WENDELIN SENG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
- IMPROVEMENT IN LEGS FOR FCLDINGv'LUNGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,031, dated September 3, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, WENDELIN SENG, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Legs for Folding- Lounges, of which the following is a specilication:
The present invention relates to an improvement in those legs which fold and are pivoted to the folding part 5 and its nature consists in providing the leg with a roller or caster and a suitable supporting-plate and spring-catch, whereby the leg will move readily over the iioor when the lounge is moved Without catching, and be held irmlyin place, as the Whole is hereinafter fully described and shown.
In the drawing, Figure l is a broken elevation of the folding part of a lounge with my improved leg attached and folded up as when the folding part is to be closed; Fig. 2, an elevation bf apart of the folding part with the leg attached and in position as When in use; Fig. 3, a section of the` folding part, showing the arrangement of the spring for holding the leg in an upright position.
A represents a part of the folding part of the lounge, and B is my improved leg, the latter being provided with a roller or caster, C, that it may readily move with the lounge and not catch or break, as it is liable to do as now constructed. The lock for holding the leg B in an upright position consists of a plate, D, and a spring-latch, E, as shown in all of the gures. This plate is recessed out on the under side to'receive the upper end of the leg B, which is held in place by means of a'screw or rivet, J. The lower side of the plate is held to the folding part by means of akscreW, I, so that when the spring-latch E is in position against the edge of the leg the latter is locked in an upright position, as shown in Fig. 2. The spring-latch is made of cast-iron and pro vided with a lug, 1), around which a coilspring,r,is put to throwthe latch up after the leg B is swung under the plate D. A capplate, F7 and a screw, a, holds the'latch E in place.
I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States- The leg B, provided with a roller, C, in combination with plate D and spring-latch E, sub stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
WENDELIN SENG.
