Specification of Letters Patent.
?atented July 15, 1919.
Application filed March 27, 191%. Serial No. 285,513.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MAX FREUND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the cit v,county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bill-Folds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a bill fold or pocket-book, and the object of this invention is to provide an article of this character which will be adapted to fold compactly into the smallest possible space, and yet afford the maximum amount of space or capacity for holding bills.
With these objects, and other objects which may hereinafter appear, in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts set forth in detail below, and more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part'hereof, in which,
Figure 1 is a front face View of my improved bill fold;
Fig. 2 is a front face view of the same in a partly folded position;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the bill fold in its completely folded posit on;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4: of Fig. 3, 1 king in the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows, and showin one of the ways in which the bills may carried.
Throughout the various views of .the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my invenas disclosed in the accompanying drawing. 1 indicates the body portion of the bill fold whi h may 'be of leather, cloth or any desired material. The body portion 1 is in the form of a narrow elongated strip of material and at its upper longitudinal edge it is provided with a pair of integrally formed flaps 2 and 3. Connected to the lower longitudinal edge of the body of the bill fold is a flap 4, this flap being connected to the body portion by an expansiblestrip I). The cxpansible strip 5 lies in between the. body portion 1 and flap 4-, and is secured thereto by the lines of stitching ti. Uri-one ting the carrying of denomination, and the bills end of the body 1 of the bill fold is the closure flap 7, which is provided with closure means in the form of a snap-fastener memher 8, which is adapted to engage a complementary snap fastener member 9 at the opposite end of the body portion 1, and on the rear face of the same, when the bill fold is iEn its completely folded position as shown in From the foregoing, the operation of my improved bill fold will be readily understood. To fold the device to its completely folded position as shown in Fig. 3, the bills 10, which are folded longitudinally. are placed upon thebody portion 1, and the upper flaps 2 and 3 are then folded upon the dotted line 11, down upon them, after which the flap 4 is folded and rests upon or overlies the flaps 2. If desired, however, the flap 4 may be first folded over the bills, and then the flaps 2 and 3 folded to overlie the flap 4. The device in its partly folded position is shown in Fig.2, after which it is folded transversely along the line 12, the body of'the bill fold being cut away at 13 and 14, to readily permit folding of the device without causing undue bulkiness. After the device has been folded along the line 12, the closure flap 7 is caused to be folded to brin its fastener member 8 into engagement with the fastener member 9, and thus the device forms a. small, compact article, which affords a large containing capacity. The expansible strip 5 allows a considerable degree of movement of the flap 4 away from the body portion 1, permitof bills, without in any way distorting the bill fold.
When desired, the flap 4: can be used to form a partition or dividing strip betweenthe bills. This arrangement is disclosed in Fig. 5. The bills 10 may be bills of large 15 may be smaller hills, which can be readily kept separate from the bills 10 by placing the bills 15 in the position shown, wherein they are folded longitudinally similar to the bills 10, and the flap 4 is placed between the folds of the bills 15 as shown. By this arrangement, it is possible to remove any of the bills 15 without disturbing or disclosing the bills 10.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact a considerable amount embodiment shown, but is broad enough to mediate said flaps, a flap at the opposite cover all structures comingwithin the scope longitudinal side of said body portion, an exof the annexed claims. pansible strip connecting said flap and body Having described my invention, what I portion, and a cut-away portion on said 5 claim is: strip and flap, saidflap and body portion An article of the class described, compris being adapted to be folded on a line coning an elongated body portion, a pair of neoting the two cut-away portions.
