Application October 12, 1940, Serial No. 360,996
1 Claim. (Cl. 224--28) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in purses and has for its primary object to provide means for attaching the purse to the wrist of a person whereby to provide means for safely carrying the purse against danger of loss.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a purse having wrist encircling straps attached to the opposite ends of the purse for attaching the purse to the wrist of a person and also providing a strap fastened to the wrist encircling straps and adapted for attaching or carrying a watch thereon.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the purse and wrist straps attached thereto,
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the strap and purse in an open position,
Figure 3 is a plan view showing the straps in extended relation with respect to the purse,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the purse in open position, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on a line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, and with particular reference to Figures 1 and 2, the numeral 5 designates a purse generally of a type adapted to carry coins, folded bills and other small articles, the purse being constructed of a back portion 6, front 1 and an intermediate partition. 8.
At each side edge of the front portion 1 of the I purse are provided gussets 9 permitting the expansion and contraction of the front 1 of the purse for opening and closing the same. The intermediate partition 8 is provided with an upstanding fiap l0 and the rear wall 6 of the purse is likewise provided with a flap ll adapted to fold over the flap l0 and also over the opening in the upper portion of the front I for securing the flap II by means of snap fasteners l2 or the like.
The side edges and bottom of the purse are secured in flatwise engagement by stitching I 3,
the stitching at the side edges being inwardly of the margin thereof to provide wings l4 projecting outwardly at each side of the purse and to which a pair of wrist straps l5 are secured by stitching I6, the straps being secured at a point adjacent the buckles ll.
As shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, the straps are arranged in spaced parallel relation and are adapted to encircle the wrist of a person for attaching the purse 5 thereto.
In Figure 4 of the drawings a modified construction of the purse is illustrated in which the intermediate partition I8 is shown with its end portions likewise secured flatwise between the ends is and 20 of the rear and front portions of the purse.
The wrist straps l5 may also be utilized for attaching a watch strap 2i thereto, the ends of the watch strap being provided with loops 22 through which the respective wrist straps l5 are inserted, the wrist straps being freely slidable through the loops for positioning the watch 23 above the purse 5 when the device is secured in position on the wrist of a person. The strap 2| is inserted through the loops 23' at opposite sides of the Watch the strap being positioned transversely behind the watch.
In Figures 3 and 5 of the drawings I have illustrated a modified form of watch strap shown at 24 and provided with the loops 25 through which the wrist straps l5 are inserted. Strap loops 26 are also secured by stitching 21 to the outer surface of the strap 24, the loop 26 being adapted for attaching to the loops 23' usually provided at opposite sides of certain types of watch cases for mounting the watch in position on the strap 24 in a manner as will be apparent.
It is believed the details of construction, manner of use and advantages of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A purse including a fiat back member and a front member having their side edges matching with each other and secured together, said front member having gussets to provide a collapsible compartment for the purse projecting forwardly from the plane of its attached side edges, a flap on the upper edge of the back member closing the top of the compartment, and wrist attaching straps secured to the front surface of said front member at its attached edges in parallel relation to said side edges.
