To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. De HAVEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Ball-Throwing Toy, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in toys and more particularly to ball-throwing toys, the object of which is to provide an arrangement that will pocket the ball every time after the ball has been tossed.

A further object of this invention is to provide a toy that will toss the ball through a horizontal ring into a basket or pocket formed with an opening in the bottom and return the ball to the projector.

With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings which are merely illustrative of my invention, the details of construction thereof are disclosed. The bottom or base portion C of the device is of peculiar construction in that it is formed with a diamond-shaped recess H eX- tending from one end of the device to the other and this recess sets apart between its inclined edges or sides and the adjacent walls of the rectangular inclosure D four guide walls 0 which converge toward the longitudinal center of the device to form a floor, which also inclines from high at its central portion to low toward its opposite ends as at c, c. upon the floor and the latter will direct the ball downwardly toward the ends of the inclosure. The inclination of the diamondshaped contour of the floor causes it to pro vide oppositely-extending downwardly-inclined portions which converge up to a point where they are wide enough to provide circular depressions on pockets 0' and c" sunk below the level of the floor.

A pair of arms 0 and c extend Vertically from the summit of the floor and serve to suitably support a ring E large enough to allow a ball to drop therein and projecting partially over one and partially over the other inclined side portion of this floor. 'The sides of the inclosure D will preferably be made of wicker-work or basket material as illustrated at D. In order to provide propulsion mechanism for a ball the projectors I illustrated in Fig. (i are used made preferably from a length of wire bent at a right angle as at J and having an integral terminal crank 7' formed thereupon, while at the opposite end of this projector arm I is formed an integral ballseating ring ll. Two of these projectors are employed and the bent portions J of these projectors are suitably trunnioned within staples h it and 11. h respectively secured upon the summit of the floor H, in such a manner that the cranks thereof project laterally of the sides of the inclosure D and so that the arms I thereof will normally incline downwardly upon the inclined portions of the floor as shown in Fig. 1; the rings F thereof being slightly o'tl'set so as to project into the depressions or pockets 0, c. In a device as described, in combination, an inclosure, a base-board therein having outwardly flaring and converging side walls, and outwardly converging oppositelyinclined longitudinal portions formed terminally with depressions, and a pair of pro jections made of wireand each having an arm overlyingone of said inclined portions, an integral rightangular portion trunnioned on said base-board having cranks outside the inclosure, said arms having rings at their outer ends adapted to seat in said depressions and receive and hold balls.
