M. E. FAVOR. GAME APPARATUS.
No. 469,554. Patented Feb. 23, 1892.
A Tram/E rs UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
MYRA E. FAVOR, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GAM E APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,554, dated February 23, 1892.
Application filed February 24, 1891. Serial No. 382,440. (N 0 model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, MYRA E. FAVOR, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Game, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in games, and has for its object to provide a game which will not only prove amusing, but will also tend to develop the muscles of the player.
A further object of the invention is to provide a game capable of being readily understood, of simple construction, and which may be played indoors or upon a lawn, as may be desired.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a portion of this specification, which is a perspective view of the apparatus employed in playing the game.
The body of the apparatus consists of a strip A of canvas or an equivalent material, the lower end whereof is turned up upon the forward face to produce a transverse pocket 13, or the said pocket may be formed by securing to the body a strip of material in any suitable or approved manner. At the four corners of the body-strip A snaps a or their equivalents are secured, and in the said body a series of openings b is produced, at the back of which pockets (J are attached. The openings are of difierent sizes, and in connection with the game a number of balls D is employed. The openings near the corners of the body of the device are the smallestand their diameter is just sufficient to receive one of the balls D. The largest opening is the central one, and the series of openings around the central one are graduated in size, all of them being of greater diameter than the (301 ner openings and of less diameter than the central one. Each opening is designated by a numeral-as, for instance, near the corner openings the number 25 is produced upon the canvas body, the same number being produced near the central opening, and also the word Dangerf and near the openings surrounding the central one the numbers 15 and 10 are produced.
The body of the device is adapted to be maintained in an inclined position, the inclination being downward and forwardin the direction of the player or players, and the body is supported in this position by two rear uprights E and two forward shorter uprights E, the connection being effected ordinarily by engaging the snaps a with rings a, attached to or connected with the uprights.
In playing the game the balls are thrown one after the other against the body A. If a ball enters one of the corner pockets, a score of twenty-five is placed to the credit of the player, and if the ball enters one of the openings surrounding the central opening the number adjacent thereto is also placed to the credit of the player; but should the ball enter the large opening near which the word Danger is produced a score of twenty-five will be placed to the debit of the player. The pocket B at the bottom of the body receives all of the balls not entering the openings, thus preventing them from becoming scattered over the floor or upon the lawn, and necessitating the spending of time and effort for their collection. As the body is of a yielding material, the balls, upon striking it, will not rebound, but will be directed to said bottom pocket.
It is evident that the device may be made in suitable sizes for use indoors or upon a lawn. hen the game is to be played upon a lawn, the posts or uprights E and E may be, and preferably are, driven intothe ground. When the game is to be played indoors, the posts or uprights are provided with suitable bases, whereby they will maintain an upright position against the force of the blow delivered upon the body by the balls.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A game apparatus comprising a yielding body having a series of graduated openings produced therein of predetermined dimensions, pockets at the back of the openings, a transverse pocket on the lower edge of the body, posts, and devices for connecting the body to the posts, whereby the said body is maintained in an inclined position, as and for thepurpose specified.
MYRA E. FAVOR.
