APPARATUS FOR USE IN PLAYING GAMES.

Application filed June 16, 1923. Serial No. 645,724.

To all whom it may concern..-

Be it known that I, Nari, STEWART Mo- Munrnrn, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and residing at \Vishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Use in Playing Games, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to apparatus for use in playing an outdoor game comprising a substantially rectangular net made wholly of twine adapted to be supported in inclined, upright or horizontal position, its entire area being constituted by pockets or cells the net being anchored at its corners only to four posts, the lower edge of the net being above the ground.

The pockets are arranged in rows and have for the purpose of the game different values depending on their positions in the rows.

To play the game, a golf ball is played towards the net, the player aiming, for example, at the central pocket, the score being determined by the value attributable to the pocket in which the ball is caught.

For example, the pockets may be numbered from the centre outward, the centre one being numbered 1, those immediately surrounding it numbered 2, and so on according to the size of the net.

The play may either be stroke, match or bogey as in golf. I

Stroke pZay-Ainy number of balls can be played; the player registering the lowest aggregate wins.

Match plague-Two players competing play their balls alternately; the player pitching the ball into the lowest numbered pocket 40 Wins the hole.

Bogeg pZcry.Bogey score depends on the size of the net, and is arrived at by adding the numbers from the centre outwards; thus, bogey for a net containing seven rows of pockets is 10, which is the sum of 1, 2, 3 and 4c. In this case four balls are played by each player, and the number up or down on bogey is indicated by the score.

The figure of the accompanying drawing is aperspective view showing an apparatus according to the invention.

The apparatus shown comprises a net 1 presenting over its entire area rows of pockets and moored at its corners only to poles 2 behind the net and pegs 3 in front, the poles and pegs being of such relative height that the net is set at the desired inclination.
