To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPHINE MCNULTY SPENCER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Florence, in fthe county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Doll, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dolls, and the object is to provide a sanitary doll. This I attain by using a detachable covering upon which the features or characteristics of the doll are embroidered or otherwise marked, and which cove-r can be easily removed and washed or otherwise cleansed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is an elevation of a doll embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a rear view showing one manner of securing the detachable covering, and Fig. 3 a. similar view showing a slightly different fastening means. Fig. 4 is a view ofthe doll body.
At 1 I have indicated the body of a doll which comprises a torso, head, arms and legs, such body being formed after the manner which is common in making rag dolls.
Completely enveloping the body 1 and conforming to the torso, head, arms, and legs, thereof is a covering 2, a placket 3 permit ting its ready application to the body. The
vplacket is Closed either by a button and button-hole fastening l, as shown in Fig. 2, or by tapes 5, as shown in Fig. 3. On the front of the cover at that portion which corresponds to the head of the body markings in simulation of a human face are provided, being embroidered or otherwise indicated.
The covering 2 is preferably made of stockinet, outingfiannel, bear skin cloth or other suitable materia, especially of elastic fabrics, or it may be crocheted or knitted of yarns, cord or threads.
I claim as my invention:
In a doll, a body portion having a head, arms and legs. and a removable unitary cover for completely enveloping and conforming to the shape of said head, arms and legs. said cover being provided with markings in simulation of a human face, and equipped with a. fastening means.
