Description

D. A. M. .SANSOTTA. FINGER TIP PROTECTOR- YAPPLICATION FILED AUG-6, 191s.
Patented June 10, 1919.
. mosses... I
fnppnbatianiiiedau usts, 191s.-
To all wh owtit mayconc'ernx i Beit known that I, DOMENICK A.M. SAN- soTTa, ;a citizenof ltalyyresiding at Pitts:
burgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and *useful- Improvements in 'FingereT-ip Protectors, of tliejfollo'wing is 'a speci fication.
- device of this ch opposite edge,
My invention relates to "new and useful improvements in a 'finger'tip protector and has for its principal "object the provision of a aracter which is -simple and inexpensive in construction and which may be easily connected on afinger.
further object is the provision ofa reinfor replacing when it has become worn.
With these and other objects in viewthe consists of the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following specification and drawings in which V Figure l is a side elevation of a hand showing a finger tip protector on a finger and thumb, the protector on the finger being s own in vertical section.
Fig. 2 a plan of the blank with reinforcing strips attached.
ig. 3 a side elevation showing the parts position upon a finger.
Fig. 4 a horizontal section on the line H of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 5 a fragmental detail of the blank before folding and without the reinforcing strips.
In constructing my protector I use a blank strip indicated at 1 which may be of any desired flexible material. An extension 2 is formed on one edge, at the top, and buckle 3 is secured thereto 1) f a fastening strap 4:. An extension 5 is formed on the and is provided with a plurality of'perforations indicated at 6 for the purpose as will be presently described. Another extension 7 is provided beneath the extension 5, and spaced therefrom, and said extension is slightly shorter than the extension 5. The strip 1 is also provided adjacent each edge with a plurality of spaced perforations indicated at 8 and a presently described.
The blank or strip 1 is adapted to be folded to form a substantially cylindrical meml... spe ification of Letters Patent.
g V end of the strip and the rip'which may be easily detached I rINcE wrfIP PROTECTOR.
' Patented J time 10, 1919. s rial o. 248,654."
ber indicated i11-Figs.l, 3 and i of the drawings and whenso folded is adapted to be laced along the vertical'edg by means of a lacing 10 which passes through the spaced openings 8 adjacent the edge of the strips.
he upper end of the strip, before being folded is adapted to be turned over upon itself as indicated more particularly in F i g. 2 of the drawings so that the extension 5 will overlie the extension 7 as shown andtheextension 2 will be on a line with the extension 7. K'A perforation 11 is formed adjacent the top edge of the strip and a similar opening, not shown, is formed adjacent the lower projection or extenstout leather, is adapted to be secured to the outer face of the strip 1 by means of a cotter pin or rivet indicated at 13. At the top the cotter pin will pass through the reinforcing strip and through the overturned portion of the strip 1 whereas at the lower end the cotter pin or rivet will pass through the opening not shown, and through an opening formed in the reinforcing strip adjacent the lower end thereof and indicated at 14.. When the blank has been folded into the cylindrical form the extension 7 will overlie the be received between the fabric 1 and the overturned portion as indicated more particularly in Fig. 4 of the drawings. en the protector is placed upon the finger tip it is secured in position y means of the extension 5 engaging the buckle 3 and the tongue of the buckle will be received in one of the openings 6. By this may be secured on fingers of different sizes and as illustrated more particularly in Fig. 1 of the drawings the reinforcing strip will preferably extend beneath the end of the finger as will also the projection or extension 9 on the lower end of the blank.
Having fully described the detailed construction it is thought that the manner of using will be understood. My finger tip protector is of particular advantage to brick layers or other persons lifting objects with the fingers and when the reinforcing strip 12 has been worn out it way be easily replaced by detaching the same through means of the cotter pins 13 or rivets. By simply renewing the reinforcing strip the tip may be used for a great length of time. By providing the upper edge folded upon itself it will be seen that the head of the cotter pin or rivet A reinforcing strip 12 preferably 'of i will not engage with discomfort When the strap has been ad]usted. The fabric 1 acts as a backing for the head of the cotter pin and thereby protect the finger.
The foregoing have reference to the preferred, vention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in arrangement and combination of parts, material, dimension et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2- g i 1. A finger tip protector comprising a substantially cylindrical member having its upper end folded upon itself and a reinforcing strip secured to the folded portion.
description and drawings what may be considered 2. A finger tip protector comprising a substantially cylindrical member having its upper end folded upon itself, a reinforcing Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, 7
the finger and cause or approved form of my 111- strip, and means passing through the folded portion and top of the reinforcing strip and through the substantially cylindrical member and lower end of the reinforcing strip for securing the strip in position.
3. A finger tip protector constructed from a blank having an extension on one edgeadjacent the top, a buckle secured to the exten sion, an extension formed on the opposite edge adjacent the top and provided with a plurality of perforations, a second extension formed beneath the perforated extension, the upper end of the blank being folded upon itself, means for connecting the edges of the blank to form a substantially cylin -p drical member and a. reinforcing strip detacha'bly connected to the blank. i In testimony whereof I affix my signature in preszipga of two Witnesses.
