Description
E. H. FRAZIER.
Improvement in SheH-Oyster Buckets.
No. 130,631, Patented Aug 20,1872.
WITNESMSES, B INVENTOR= Nrrnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDW ARD H. FRAZIER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHELL-OYSTER BUCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,631, dated August 20, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD H. FRAZIER, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in OysterMeasuring Buckets, of which the following is a specification; and I dohereby declare that the same is a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to a bucket of a known content, to be used in measuring oysters in the shell, having either a fixed or hinged bottom, constructed in such a manner as to allow all extraneous substances, such as gravel, sand, water, and the like to separate and pass off from the oysters, leaving them in a clean condition.
. In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 shows a vertical section of a bucket having a fixed bottom. Fig. 2 is atop view of the same. Fig. 3 illustrates amodification of my invention, consisting of the hingedbottom heretofore mentioned.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts of my invention in all the figures.
A is the bucket of some standard cubical capacity. B is an angle-iron ring, which in" Fig. 1 is shown fastened to the interior of the bucket at or near its bottom. 0 G are iron bars and pendent attachments to an oyster-bucket placed somewhat above its center of gravity,
effecting the same result by allowing or causing the bottom, placed below the bucket and hinged at d, to fall by drawing the latch c by means of the rope f from contact with the vertical flanch of the angle-iron ring. The latch e is riveted to the exterior of the bucket, and is made of sufficient length to give that resilience to it as a spring which will enable it to seek and retain its hold upon the ring. After the bottom has fallen and the contents of the bucket have-been discharged, the bottom is shut and secured by coming into contact with the deck of the vessel or the ground whercon the bucket is rested to be filled again with oysters.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
An oyster-measuring bucket, having either a fixed or hinged bottom, consisting of the angleiron ring B and bars 0 O, riveted or secured thereto, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name, in, the city of Baltimore, this 31st day of July, in the year of our Lord 1872.
EDWARD H. FRAZIER. YVitnesses:
Gno. H. HOWARD, I HAGERTY.
