Description
L. H. DAVIS. DETACHABLE SHIRT BUTTON. APPLICATION man SEPT. 3. 191's.
1,305,072. Patented May 27,1919.
LYMAN H. DAVIS, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
DETAG'HAIBLE SHIRT-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27, 1919.
Application filed September 3, 1918. Serial No. 252,457.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN H. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Detachable Shirt-Button, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel detachable shirt button which can be readily applied to and removed from a shirt without requiring any accessories; and to provide a button which can be manufactured at a very low cost.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention Figure 1 is a top plan of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation or edge view; and
Fig. 4: is a perspective of a modified form of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, I provide a coiled button head 1 formed at the end of a substantially upturned neck 4, in which ring 2 terminates. Ring 2 is provided with a transversely bent portion 3, as shown in the drawings extending straight across the opening, and portion 3 is then bent around to provide the semicircular portion 5. As shown, the entire device is formed from a single wire, thus making it possible to manufacture the device at the minimum expense.
The shirt button may be applied to any shirt, either silk, cotton or wool. The edge of the shirt front or other portion to which the button is applied is clasped by and between the portions 2, 3 and 5. My device does not penetrate the goods to apply or remove and does not injure the shirt in any way. My device can be used as an ordinary shirt stud button or a collar button, but its most useful purpose is to supply the place of a button torn off of a shirt where needle, thread and buttons are not readily procurable. When the shirt is buttoned only the head of the button will be visible to the observer.
It is within the contemplation of my invention to make any suitable modification of the form of the head 1 or to suitably plate same, to give it the appearance of an ordinary button head.
It is also within the contemplation of my invention to suitably modify the shape of the clasp portion of the device, it being re quired, however, that the wire be arranged to provide a clasp of the typ disclosed.
What I claim is:
A detachable shirt button comprising a coiled button head, an upstanding neck, and a clasp portion comprising a ring connected to the aforesaid upstanding neck, a transversely bent portion in which the ring termi nates and -a reversely bent semicircular por tion in which the transversely bent portion terminates, substantially as set forth.
LYMAN H. DAVIS.
