PAUL L. GEER, 0F BELLEVUE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO EDGAR M. MOORE, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
GHAPLET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 27, 1919.
Application filed July 11, 1918.. Serial No. 244.397.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL L. GEnR, a c1t1- zen of the United States, and resident of Bellevue, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chaplets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to chaplets, such as are used for supporting a core within a mold during the molding operation, and which are formed of such metal or other suitable material that they will melt into and form part of the molten metal in making the casting, without affecting such casting in appearance or any other manner.
The object of my invention is to form a chaplet from a single piece of material, such as sheet metal, as well as one which can be easily and quickly manufactured, and one which will be efiicient and inexpensive in form and construction.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to construct and use my improved chaplet, I will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a plan of a blank from which my improved chaplet may be formed;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a chaplet formed from the blank shown in Fig. 1; and
' Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the chaplet through the standard and its blanks.
Like symbols of reference herein indicate like parts in each of the several figures of the drawing.
As illustrated in the drawing A represents my improved chaplet, Wh1ch is provided with the heads or ends 1, and the cen tral standard 2 between the same for carrying such heads, and having the flanges 3 on each side of the same for strengthening anal supporting said heads and said standar The blank B from which the chaplet A is made or formed is struck from a piece of sheet metal, the heads 1 and standard 2 being formed by slitting the blank at 4,
It will be evident that my improved chaplet can be punched and stamped to completed form by a single operation and if desired the chaplet can be coated or plated with aluminum, tin or other material. It will also be evident that the use of the flanges on the standard will act as an anchor in the metal of the casting in case the heads melt.
Various modifications and changes in the design and construction of my improved chaplet may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A chaplet formed from a single piece of sheet metal having two slotted heads, and a supporting standard between said heads from points intermediate the sides of the heads and having a flange on the side of the same extending the full length of the standard.
2. A chaplet formed from a single piece of sheet metal having two slotted heads, and a supporting standard between said heads from points intermediate the sides of the heads and having a flange on each side of the same extending the full length of the standard.
3. A chaplet formed from a single piece of sheet metal having two slotted heads, and a supporting standard between said heads from points intermediate the sides of the heads, said standard having an angular shaped flange bent out from the Side thereof from points intermediate the sides of the Witnesses:
and extending the full length of the standside of said standard and extending the full a'rd. length of the standard. 10
4. A chaplet formed from a single piece In testimony whereof, I, the said PAUL L.
of sheet metal having two slotted heads and GEEK, have hereunto set my hand. a
a supporting standard between said heads -PAUL L. GEER.
heads, said standard having an angular c n, shaped flange bent Out from and on each 'J7 N.1 Gnosmieini Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
