LID For, wATR-orosnrsf i n Sipeeiiicatibniof Iietters Patient. i May Application led March 21, 1918. Serial No. 223,716.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, MADGE M. LUSK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lid for Water-Closets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The obj ect of the invention is to provide a new and improved lid for. water closets arranged to keep the water closet in sanitary condition by practically a continuous disinfection thereof. Another object is to provide a disinfecting means which is simple and durable in construction and which can be cheaply manufactured and readily used.
In order to produce the desired result, use is made of a light fra-me adapted to rest on and to cover the seat of a water closet, and a. disinfectant holder mounted on the said frame and extending in the opening of the seat.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speclcatlon in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the lid;
Fig. 2 is a front edge view of the same as applied to a water closet, the seat of which is shown in section;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of a portion ofthe lid on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
The frame 10 of the lid is preferably made of cardboard or other suitable stiff material, and the said frame in outline is shaped corresponding to the Seat 11 of a water closet 12 having the usual cover 13. The frame 10 is adapted to rest on the seat 11 so as to cover the same, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2. The frame 10 is provided with a central opening 15 in which extends a disinfectant holder 16 having a perforate top 17 and a perforate bottom 18 with the margins thereof secured to the frame 10. Between the top 17 and the bottom 18 is held an absorbent material 19 such as cotton or the like adapted to be saturatedwith a suitable disinfectant of liquid, powder or other form.A
It will be noticed that the disinfectant material completely lls the opening 15 of the frame 10 and hence the escape of germs by way of the said opening'is prevented and the water closet is practically continually disinfected. The frame 10 is provided at its margin with a suitable hanger 20 to permit of conveniently and temporarily hanging up the lid during the time the water closet is used, it being understood that the user of the water closet returns the lid after use of the water closet. It will be noticed that the lid is practically continually in use except during the short time the water closet is used, and the lid can be readily temporarily removed from the seat and replaced as described, and the disinfectant can be replenished from time to time thus rendering the lid exceedingly effective for disinfecting purposes at all times.
The frame 10 is preferably covered at the top, bottom and outer edge by a covering 21 of enameled or glazed paper which extends over the marginal edges of the top 17 and the bottom 18* so as to give an exceedingly neat appearance to the lid.
It is understood that the top 17 and the bottom 18 is of perforate material such as gauze, wire netting, or the like, but I do not limit myself to any particular perforate material. v
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an article of manufacture, a lid for material contalned between the upper and lower sheets of the holder.
2. As an article of manufacture, a lid for water closet seats, comprising a light frame adapted to rest on and to cover the seat of a water closet, the said frame having an opening, a disinfecting holder havin a perforate top and a perforate bottom an attached to the frame and extending across the opening top and a perforate bottom and attached to thereof, and an absorbent material contained the frame and extending across the opening 10 in theholder. f t j Y thereof, an absorbent material contained in 3. As anarticle of manufacture, alid-y 4for the holden'anda coveringdfor the top and 5 Water closet seats comprising a light frame bottom of the frame and extending over the adapted to rest on and to cover the seat'of'a margins of the said perforate top and bot- Water closet, the said framehavingan'- open'- tom fof the 'holdernf ing, a disinfectant holder havinga perforate I v l* 'l MADGE M.
