Abstract

A chair which fits over the common toilet including the water box. The chair includes arms and a back. The seating portion of the chair has a closable opening. The chair when fitted over the toilet and water box hides the unsightly toilet and provides an attractive comfortable chair that can be used for sitting upon.

The cover chair not only hides the unsightly toilet and water box but provides an attractive comfortable arm-chair that can be used for sitting upon.

The cover chair is of particular advantage to elderly persons, young children and those who are hospitalized because the chair having arms for support enables them to use the toilet unaided. The chair also prevents such persons from falling.

The seating area of the cover chair includes therein an opening which may be opened or closed by means of two doors. Any person desiring to use the toilet merely has to open the doors. To use the toilet, therefore, it is not necessary to lift the cover chair off the toilet.

The cover chair also has in the back of the chair an opening which permits the flush handle to be reached. Accordingly, the toilet may be flushed without removing the cover chair.

Compartments are located in the arms and in the front portion of the chair. The arm compartments may be used to hold a toilet paper holder and a plastic spray hose. The front compartment holds extra toilet paper rolls, toilet bowl cleanser and a mop.

The toilet cover chair may be easily removed for cleaning. The chair is of sufficiently light and simple ,construction that it can be lifted and placed in the bathtub for cleaning with the spray hose.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The toilet cover chair comprises a generally U- shaped" front portion 1, two generally L-shaped side portions 2, a generally rectangular shaped back portion 3, and a generally rectangular shaped seating portion 4. These portions flow smoothly into one another by means of gently rounded curves to form a chair having back and arms. The seating portion 4 of the cover chair includes two hinged doors 5 which may be opened upwardly and outwardly toward the two arms 13. These doors 5 when opened permit the toilet to be used without having to lift the cover chair ofi" the toilet.

Located in the front 1 of the chair are two sliding panels 6 which open into a compartment that may be used to hold an extra supply of toilet paper rolls, toilet bowl cleanser and a mop. I

Located in the back 3 is an opening 9. When the cover chair is placed over the toilet, the flushing lever protrudes through this opening, and thereby permits the toilet to be flushed without having to lift the cover chair off the toilet.

As may best be seen in FIG. 5, the toilet cover chair, when viewed from the back and below, is generally hollow. The dimensions of the toilet cover chair are such that the hollowed out back neatly fits over the greater majority of the common toilet and water boxes in use today.

Located at the back of the toilet cover chair are hooks 10. These hooks 10 may be used in cooperation with screws which can be fastened in the wall at the back of the toilet. In this way the rear edges of the cover chair are securely fastened to the walls while the bottom edges rest on the floor of the bathroom. The hooks 10 are designed so that to remove the toilet cover chair off the toilet they may be lifted readily off the screws in the wall.

Located on the inside of each of the wall portions 2 of the cover chair are supports 11 which may be constructed of light material. These supports 11 when secured to the inside of each of the side portions 2 lend further stability to the toilet cover chair.

Located at the bottom of the toilet cover chair along the two side portions 2 and the front portion 1 is an apron 12. This apron 12 is indented so that a person is not apt to kick the cover chair when in normal use. Moreover, if the apron 12 is kicked, the kick marks will be less obvious because that part of the chair is indented.

The foregoing detailed discussion is intended to illustrate only one preferred embodiment of the toilet cover chair. Other embodiments of the invention also exist and by providing the detailed discussion of the preferred embodiment it it not intended that I am to be restricted to that one embodiment. My invention is directed to any toilet cover chair which incorporates the substance of my invention.

I claim:

1. A chair suitable for covering bathroom toilets comprising,

a generally U-shaped front portion,

a pair of generally L-shaped side portions,

a generally rectangular shaped back portion, and

means defining a generally rectangular shaped seating portion;

said front portion, side portions, back portion and seating portion cooperating with one another in a manner wherein the surfaces of the front, sides, back and seating portions by means of gently rounded curves flow smoothly into one another to form a chair having a back and arms and receivable as a covering on bathroom toilets;

the reverse side of the front, sides, back and seating portions presenting a generally hollowed out appearance; and said means defining the seating-portion including therein a pair of doors which swing upwardly and toward the arms of the chair. 2. A chair according to claim 1 wherein an opening is located in the back of the chair.

3. A chair according to claim 1 wherein hooks are located in the hollowed out reverse side of the chair.

4. A chair according to claim 1 wherein compartchair.

7. A chair according to claim 4 wherein the compartments are openable and closable by means of sliding doors.

8. A chair according to claim 5 wherein the compartment is openable and closable by means of a hinged door.

9. A chair according to claim 1 wherein an apron is located at the bottom of the front and sides of the chair and is indented in relation to the plane of the front and sides of the chair.

Claims

1. A chair suitable for covering bathroom toilets comprising, a generally ''''U-shaped'''' front portion, a pair of generally ''''L-shaped'''' side portions, a generally rectangular shaped back portion, and means defining a generally rectangular shaped seating portion; said front portion, side portions, back portion and seating portion cooperating with one another in a manner wherein the surfaces of the front, sides, back and seating portions by means of gently rounded curves flow smoothly into one another to form a chair having a back and arms and receivable as a covering on bathroom toilets; the reverse side of the front, sides, back and seating portions presenting a generally hollowed out appearance; and said means defining the seating portion including therein a pair of doors which swing upwardly and toward the arms of the chair.

2. A chair according to claim 1 wherein an opening is located in the back of the chair.

4. A chair according to claim 1 wherein compartments that are accessible to a person sitting in the chair are located in the arms.

5. A chair according to claim 1 wherein one or more compartments are located in the front of the chair.

6. A chair according to claim 2 wherein the opening is located in the upper left corner of the back of the chair.
