To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERTI-IA HAWKEY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of 10 Princes street, Hanover Square, London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new article of dress, or dressattachment, to be worn by women and girls so as to constitute a finish to, or smarten the appearance of, an otherwise plain slip-on frock or gown.

The article of the present invention com-.

prises, in combination, what may be termed a yoke, formed of a collar-portion with front straps, and a belt and sash. The yoke is worn like a stole, with the collar-portion resting upon and dependent behind the shoulders, while the front straps, constituting extensions of the ends of the collar-portion, depend in front as far as or below the waist, where they are secured to the belt, so as to keep the yoke as a whole in position. The belt is in two lengths united by elastic so as to be adapted to fit and cling about the waist; while the sash, which is permanently attached to the belt, comprises two strips, of material broad enough to cover the belt and conceal the junction therein and long enough to be passed around the waist and tied together at the back.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an inside view of the article of the present invention, shown as developed more or less in the flat. Figs. 2 and 3 are front and rear views illustrating the appearance of the article when in wear.

Referring more particularly to Fig. 1, it will be seen that the yoke, which is of approximately U-shape in the flat, comprises a back-portion a adapted to rest upon and depend behind the shoulders; the ends I), b of the portion a, which pass over the shoulders, being extended to form the front straps 0, c which may be about (say) three inches wide and are of a length to reach slightly below the belt, which latter they overlie.

The belt comprises two lengths d and e of material, say about three inches wide, whereof 03 extends across the front through broad loops 7, 7" attached to the inner or rear side of the front straps 0, c. The other length e of the belt is permanently attached to the length d at one end of each by two pieces g, g of elastic webbing at the upper and lower margins of the belt, while the other end of the length cl is provided with a pair of tapes h, h and the meeting end of the length 6 with a pair of tapes j, j so that the belt can be adjusted about the waist by tying the tapes h and 7' together so as to put the elastics g, 9 under any desired degree of tension.

In the example illustrated, the part d already mentioned is common to both the belt and the sash, the latter consisting of two lengths is, m of material forming extensions of the part d or permanently attached to its ends at a and o; the sash-parts 7a, m having a width not less than that of the belt and a length suflicient to permit of their being passed around the waist (so as to cover the part c of the belt and conceal the elastics g, and the tied tapes h, j) and tied at the back in a bow as indicated at p in Fig. 3.

Theiitrticle as a whole constitutes what I term a arness which, when once adjusted to the wearers figure, may be readily put on and taken off by slipping it over the head and shoulders and secured in position without fasteners. It is thus well suited for wear with any klnd of costume, and is especially adapted for use with a very plain style of dress such as is necessarily worn by workers of various kinds, and serves to give to the simplest form of uniform-overall or the like, outside working hours, the appearance of an ordinary frock. vThe harness may for example be made of the same material as the dress with which it is worn, or of a different material or color, nd may if desired be trimmed with lace or fur, or be otherwise ornamented.

What is claimed is 1. An attachment for garments comprising a substantially U-shaped section arranged to be slipped over the head and shoulders and forming a continuous collar and continuing front straps extending downwardly at the front and having free ends located approximately at the waist line, a belt connected with said front straps at their free ends and arranged to extend about the waist whereby said attachment is secured in position and means connected with said belt and arranged to be secured about the waist whereby said belt is concealed.

2. An attachment for garments comprising a substantially U-shaped section ar- 11!;

ranged to be slipped over the head and shoulders and forming a continuous collar and continuing front straps extending downwardly at the front and having free ends located approximately at the waist line, a belt section connected with said front straps at their free ends, a second belt section, elastic means connecting said belt sections at one end and means whereby the other ends of said belt sections are detacha bly connected to secure said attachment in position.

An attachment for garments comprising a, substantially U-shaped section arranged to be slipped over the head and shoulders and forming a continuous collar and continuing front straps extending downwardly at the front and having free ends located approximately at the waist line, loops carried by said front straps at their free ends, and a belt extending through said loops and arranged to extend about the waist whereby said attachment is secured in position.

An attachment for garments comprising a substantially U-shaped section arranged to be slipped over the head and shoulders and forming a continuous collar and continuing front straps extending downwardly at the front approximately at the waist line, loops carried by said front straps at their free ends, a main belt section extending through said loops, an auxiliary belt section arranged to extend about the waist, elastic webbing connecting said belt sections at opposed ends, tapes connected with the other ends of said belt sections and arranged to be tied together, whereby said attachment is secured in position and a sash permanently attached to said main belt section and adapted to be tied about the waist to conceal the belt sections and their connected elements.
