Be it known that l, SAMUEL P, Gnrinn'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in DoorLocks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved door lock, and has for its primary object to provide a locking device particularly designed for application to the doors of commercial vehicle bodies whereby the doors may be easily and quickly opened, while at the same time access to the interior ot the vehicle body by vunauthorized persons may be etfectually prevented.
tis another important object of the invention to provide a locking device for the above purpose which is so'constructed that the doors are locked bothl on the interior and the exterior thereof.
And ,it is a further general object of my invention to provide a door locking device the various elements of which are ot' simple and durable construction, effective and reliable in their operation and capable of being manufactured at relatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved combination, construction and relative arrange-` ment of the several parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters designate the corresponding parts throughout the several views; and wherein:

Referring in detail to the drawing, D and D indicate the two doors or' the motor, vehicle body, said doors at their outer vertical edges being pivotally or hingedly mounted upon the side walls of the lvehicle body in any approved manner for outward swing` ing movement. A balance 'strip 'S secured to the outer tace of the door D projects lat erally from the free vertical edge thereof for lapping engagement upon the outer face of the other door D as shown in F ig. 2, whereby when the door with the locking mechanism to be hereinafter described is locked in its closed position, the door D will likewise be held closed against outward swinging movement.

The shaft 5 has v,a circular head 6 formed upon one ofits ends while the other end of said shaft is reduced in diameter as at? and formed withl athreaded terminal 8. A metal bar 9 is provided with an opening in receive the'shaft 5, said bar when the device is applied being interposed between the head 6 on said shaft and the face'of the'door D. This bar extends horizontally upon one side ot' the head 6 and is rigidly secured to the door by means of suitable screws shown at 10. The bar 9 is formed upon its rear 'face with a boss 11 surrounding the opening in the end of said bar through which `the shaft 5 is engaged. A pin 12 is inserted through a transverse opening in the shaft 5 and the projecting ends of thispin engage the boss 1l whereby the shaft is held ao'ainst axial shifting movement through the ar 9. The boss 11 and the pin 12 are disposed in a' countersink or recess 13 in the face of .the door. At its other end in a reversely curved hook-14 the bill or terminal of which is disposed in parallel relation to the body of the bar.

movementot the lever, the shaft 5 is rotated and through the medium of the plate '21 on the inner end of said shaft, the locking bolts 25 are vertically moved in relatively opposite directions and disengaged from the keepers 30. The doors D and D can then be swung outwardly to their open positions.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing. the construction, manner of operation and several advantages of my improved locking device Will be clearly and fully understood. lVhile the invention is primarily designed with a view to providing a simple and effective locking means for the doors of commercial vehicle bodies, it is of course manitest that the device can also be advantageously employed for various other analogous purposes. The parts of the improved door lock can be readily assembled and applied in operative position, Without necessitating any material alterations in the doors of the vehicle body construction. A device constructed and operating in the manner described provides easilv and quickly operable means for securely locking the doors in closed position upon both the interior and exteriorthereof. As no springs or other easily breakable elements are employed, the device is not liable to get out of order, but on the contrary, the various parts being of simple form, the invention as a Whole will be highly durable and serviceable in practical use.
