Be it known that I. JAMES A. DELAL'GI-I- ran. a citizen of the United States. residing at Bonita. in the county of Morehouse and State of Louisiana. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops. of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to envelops. and the general object of the invention is to provide an envelop made of one sheet of paper so folded as to form two sealable compartments so that an inclosure may be placed in one of'these compartments and this compartment sealed. while the other compartment is left open for the deposit therein of a money order. postal note. or a further communication, if desired.

Often times on rural mail delivery routes. it. is necessary-to give a letter to the postman unsealed and to hand him the money wherewith to procure a money order or postalnote. which he is afterward to insert in the letter and seal the letter and forward it to its address. Under these circumstances. the communication is liable to beread by the postman and sometimes it is distinctly inadvisable that the carrier should know the contents of the letter. Not onlyis this the case with regard to letters given to a rural carrier. but often times the letters are given to friends to post in a town with the necessity of having an inclosure inserted.

The envelop which I have devised is designed to obviate the chance of having the inclosure read by providing an envelop with two compartments, an inner and an outer. the letter being inserted within the inner compartment and sealed. leaving the outer compartment open for the reception of a check, postal note or money order. The outer compartment may be then sealed, thus sealing the whole letter and the letter posted.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of an envelop blank;

Referring to these drawings, it will be seen from Fig. 1, that the blank from which my envelop is made is formed to provide a front portion 10 having a sealing flap 11 attached thereto at the top and a flap 12 attached to the bottom, with a sealing flap 13 formed at the bottom thereof. The flap 12 is designed to be disposed in confronting relation to the flap 10 and the back of the envelop is formed by two laterally disposed flaps ll attached to the ends of the portion 10. these flaps 14: at their ,lower edges having upwardly bent margins 15. These flaps 11 are of such length that when they are folded over upon the flap 12. they will overlap and the margins 15 are gummed upon their inside faces as at 16 while the flaps 13 and 11 are also gummed upon their inner faces as at 17.

In forming an envelop from the blank above described, the flap 12 is disposed in confronting relation to the inner face of the flap 10. The flaps 14 are. then turned down upon the flap 12 and their ends are caused to adhere to each other, the marginal folds 15 being folded over upon the face of the portion 10 and caused to adhere thereto. There is then provided an envelop comprising two compartments. with an intermediate wallseparating the two compartments and with a flap 18 which is adapted to close one of these compartments and a flap 11 of greater depth than the flap 13. which is adapted to be folded over so as to entirely seal and close the envelop. It will thus be seen that a written inclosure may be disposed within the compartment closed by the flap 13, then later on a money inclosure may be disposed within the other compartment and the letter sealed by turning down the flap 11. It will be seen that this envelop may be cheaply made, and it may be used for a Variety of purposes, and that it is very convenient.

I claim An envelop of the character described formed of a. blank having a front portion. a back flap attached to the bottom thereof and adapted to be folded into confronting relation thereto, this front portion and the back flap being formed with sealing flaps, the sealin fiap attached to the back flap being less 111 depth than the sealing flap attached to the front portion and lateral flaps attached to the ends of the front portion having a length sufiicient to overlap each other, the inner faces of said lateral flaps along the bottom margins thereof being provided with adhesive and one end of one of the lateral flaps being provided with adhesive, said lower adhesive covered margins of the lateral flaps being folded over upon and caused to adhere to the lower margin of the front flap when the envelop is folded whereby to provide an envelop having two 10 compartments and two sealing flaps.
