My invention relates to an improvement in communicating forms, and its objects are to reduce the volume of weight and bulk of mail; and to save the time, labor, material and other expense involved in the manufacture and use of envelopes, by dispensing with the latter in transmitting communications of the kind referred to, without revealing the contents thereof to any save the addressee.

13 l attain'these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a detailed view, in perspective, of the device or form, showing it -as it appears with its folds creased, but unsealed.

Figure 2 represents the back of the form as it appears folded, showing one of the flaps l, pasted to the back surface of the lower fold 5; the other flap 1, showing as not fold- 2O ed over the end of the lower fold 5, and not sealed thereto.

Figure 3 represents the form as it appears, front view, when folded and sealed.

rl`he form is'preferably so cut that the eX- tending flaps 1, of, preferably, the upper fold 2, of the form, extend outwardly from the other folds 6 and 5, of the form.

@n the upper fold 2, of the form are placed, preferably, in the center or upper left corner, the name, style, and title 3, of the transmitter, together with words, numerals, and symbols to indicate the character of the communication, its date, and the address of the transmitter. y

Preferably, onthe lower, left corner of the upper fold 2, are placed words, numerals, and symbols to' indicate the name,.style, and title d, and address of the addressee of the communication. v

rlhe extending flaps 1, of the form are, preferably, soarranged as to fold backwardly from the front surface of the upper fold 2, of the form, and are so prepared, preferably by gumming, as to be easily sealed or fastened after the form has been folded;v

The form is, preferably, folded in three folds, the lower fold 5, of the form, folds preferably, inwardly and upwardly toward the front surface of fold 6, thus concealing the contents of the communication whichis written on the front surface of folds 6 and 5, of the form.

The center fold 6, of the form is, preferably, folded backwardly and upwardly so that it meets and presses against the back surface'of the upper fold 2 thus forming a pocket between the backs of the folds 6 and 2, which may be utilized unsealed or otherwise. The extending flaps 1, are then folded, preferably, backwardly from the front surface of the upper fold 2, and are fastened or sealed, preferably, by gumming, so that the gummed surface of the flapsl, adhere to the back surface of the lower fold 5, of the 6o form, thus partly sealing the communication.

The end 7, of the lower fold 5, of the form is so arranged, folded,.and prepared, that it meets flush and evenly with the upper crease of the center fold 6, on a horizontal line between the address of the addressee, and the salutation of the communication, and on the front surfaceof the cen- .ter fold 6.

rIhe end 7, of the lower fold 5, of the form is so prepared, preferably by gumming, that it readily fastens or adheres to the extreme upper front surface of the center fold 6, of the form, on a line just above the salutation, and between the latter and the address of the addressee of the communication, thus completing the sealing of the communication, as may be desired, y as for example, when sending as first class mail.,

lf it is desired to send the communication at a cost lower than first class mail, only-the extending flaps 1, of the form. need be sealed. The form, in suchca'se, being onlyV partly sealed, postal inspection can be easily made. i v l Preferably at either of the sides 8, of the end 7, may be left, preferably unsealed, a very small part of the lower fold 5, of the form in order that the point of a paper cutter, or other instrument, may be inserted for the purpose of opening the communication, and words or indicaters are so placed, preferably on the back surface of the lower fold 5, as to attractattention to this con- 10" venient point for opening the form or communication.

On the front surface of the form, preferably on the center and lower folds 6 and 5,

respectively, is placed any communicationV .the use of an envelope.

0n the form, preferably at the upper right corner of the front surface of the upper fold 2, is placedv a stamp 9 or Words or indicaters to show that the communication is entitled to be transmitted-for example, when transmitted under mailing permit without stamps aiiixed, or otherwise.

Having thus described my invention, I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim:

1. A communicating form of the kind described, consisting of a sheet of paper, or other material, so cut and arranged that flaps extend outwardly fromthe sides of the upper fold of the sheet, the flaps being so arranged and repared, referably by gumming, that Aw en the s eet is folded, the extending flaps fold backwardly from the front surface of the upper fold of the sheet, and may be fastened or be made toy adhere to theback surface of the lower fold of. the sheet, thereby partlyI sealin the communieating form, the method of olding forming a poc i middle folds of the sheet which may be utilized unsealed or otherwise, having the name and address of the transmitter of the communication exposed to view on the front surface of the upper fold of the letter sheet having the loweri end of the lower fold of the sheet so prepared, preferably by gumming, that when the lower fold of the sheet is folded upwardly against the front surface of the middle fold of the sheet, the lower, pre ared end adheres or fastens to the front sur ace of the Yletter sheet, substantially along the upper crease of the middle fold of the sheet, on ahorizontal line between the salutation and the address of the addressee of the communication, and having a small part of the lower', prepared end of the lower fold of the sheet left unsealed and conspicuously marked, as va convenient place for opening the communication.

referablyby gumming, that when the lower old of the sheet is folded pwardly against the front surface of the mlddle fold of the sheet, the lower, prepared end adheres or fastens to the front surface of the letter sheet, substantially along the upper crease of the middle fold of the sheet, on a horizontal line between the`salutation and the address of the addressee of the communication, thereby completing lthe sealing of the communication, having a small part of the lower, prepared end of the lower fold of the sheet left unsealed and conspicuously marked, as a convenient place for opening the communication, having a communication placed, preferably in writing, on the inside surface of-the folds of the letter sheet, having thedate ofthe communication placed on the front surface of the letter sheet,'prefer ably at the top of the sheet, as evidence of the time of its execution, and having evidence, preferably a stamp, placed, preferably on the front surface of the upper fold of the sheet, to indicate that the communieatingl form is entitled to transmission or has been transmitted, including the date thereof.
