ILLUMINAT'ING MEANS ron CHRISTMAS TREES.
To ZZ/whom mag/concern.' y
Be it knownV that LERNEST H. MosnMAN', a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county ot Kings and State of New York, have'invented a new and use ful illuminating lli/leans for Christmas Trees; and l do hereby declare the following .to be a full, clear, and exact description of use the same. l
This invention relates to an improved illuminating device for Christmas trees. and.
one-of the objects of the invention is to provide an illuminator stand constructed ot tubular pipe sections, designed to have connection with a suitable sourceoffgas'supply, and provided with flexible tubular branches terminatin in gas burners and suitable globes, Jforllinrilliantly illuminating a Christmas tree and the ornaments thereon.
A further object ot' the'invention is the fprovision of a plurality ot series of tubular' alb branches, the central stem of the illuminator stand having lsuitable valves or stop-cocks, one for each series of branches, whereby the gas to each series may be controlled sepa? rately Jfrom the other series; l
A further object of the inventionvis the provision of globes itor the burners, eachnto constructed in order to conresembleor be stitute an ornament for a shield for the light.
' A further object of the invention is to provide suitable clamps for the branches for connecting them to the branches ot the tree.
Tn practical ields, the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further Jfeatures and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. C

of the illuminator, showing the burner and illustrating the globe.
Fig.- 6 is a plan View of the base of the stand of the illuminator, showing the holder for the tree.
Fig. 7 is a detail view of the clamp for connecting the terminal portion of each flexible branch to a limb ot the tree;
Referring` more especially to the drawings, 1 designates a suitable base for the Christmas tree illuminator, which may be secured to the floor or the like by means of screws or other devices 2. Rising upwardly from the lbase 1', is a Christmas tree socket 3, to receive the lower end ofthe stem 4 ot the Christmas tree, there being a screw 5 extending up wardly through the base 1 and into the stem 41, to hold the Christmas tree securely in .the
socket. The base 1 is designed to .be cast, and Jformed integrally therewith is an upstand- .ing plate 6. lso cast to the plate 6 is an elbow 7. Threaded to the elbow 7 is a valve casing 8, into the other end of which a nipple 9 is threaded. This nipple 9 may be connected to any suitable source ot gas supply, not shown, by any suitable' flexible tube connection 10. The casing 8 is provided with .a
conventional form ot tapering plug valve 11, provided with a transverse opening 12, adapted to register with the passages of the elbow '7 and the nipple 9. The Christmas tree illuminatonhas a.central tubular stem 13, which comprises the tubular sections 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, and the connectingcasings 19, 20, 21 and 22, and the valve casings 23, '211 and 25. The casing 19 connects the two sections 14 and 15, while the lower ends ot the sections 16 and 17 are threaded at 26 into the casings 2,0 and 21, respectively. The
lower ends of the casings 20, 21 and 22 are threaded into the valve casings 23, y24C and 25, respectively, the upper ends of the tubular sections 15, 16 and 17 being' threaded into the lower ends ot the valve casings 23, 24 and 25, respectively; The tubular section 18 of the stem of the illuminator is constructed from a iiexible tube, and its lower end is ltted 27 of the casing 22. The Casin 19, 20, 21 and 22 are provided with cham ers 28, and extendingradially from said casings are nipples iexible tubular branches 30 of the illumi- 'nator are fitted, whereby the gas that co1 lects in the chambers of said oasings may pass through the flexible branches to the burners. Each of the casings 23, 24, and 25 29, to which the sheet metal is provided.
is provided with a conventional form of plug gas cock or valve 31 provided with a transverse opening 32, adapted to register with the passage through the stein of the illuininator. B v these valves, the gas to each series of tubular branches may be controlled. The outer end of each tubular branch 30 is connected to an extension nipple 33 of an elbow 34, which terminates in a. conical flange 35 having screws 36 to hold the globes 37 to the flanges. Each globe may be of Aa different shape or configuration, in order to act as an ornament, as well as a shield for tho light from the burner 38, which is threaded at 39 in the outer upturned ond of the elbow 34. ln using the illuminator, the tubular branches 30 (which are flexible) are connected to tbc limbs of the Christmas tree, by means of the clamps 40, in order to hold the flexible tubular branches adjacent said lin'ib, in the maniiei' shown in Fig. 1. The handles of the clamps 40 havespiings 4linterposcd therebetween to cause the clamping jaws 'to bold the Hcxi'blc tubular branches to the limbs of the tree. One of the clainping jaws of each .clamp is provided with struck up spurs 42, to pierce or embed into the limb ofthe tree, to prevent slipping of the clamp, Suitable clamping device 43, constructed from a single strip of spring The spring sheet stantially circular portion 44, gages about the stein of the illuminator, and t e opposing arms of the device 40 have curved parts 45, to clamp diametrically opposite portions of the stem of the Christ.- inas tree, there being a screw 46 to draw the opposin arms of the device 43 toward each other. he vertical flexible branch section 18, at its upper end, connects to a short tube 7 provided With a flaring flange 48, which supports a topl globe 49, and fixed or extended into the tube 47-is a burner 50. By the construction of a vdevice 'of this kind, a
hristmas tree ma be illuminatedby virtue of gasa -It is t e aim to have the burn is claimed as new and useful is In an illuininator for Christmas trees, the combination with a perpendicular standardaof a base therefor, said standard comi prising a pluralit of elongated sections gradually diminishing in diameters from the base to the top of the standard, reducing couplings connecting the adjacent ends of said sections,'whereby they are supported axially.super-imposed, said couplings having chambers and Vprovided with radially protruding reduced nipples having beaded ends, and flexible tubes colinected' to the beaded nipples and having their outer ends terminating in burners, and 'means for coniiecting said standard to the central stem of l the tree. v In testimony whereof I have 'signed my naine to this specification in the presence'of two subscribing witnesses.
