Description

alCh 22 1949 D. A. LINE I 2,465,242
i GAS TORCH Filed Sept. 16, 1944 Inventor Patented Mar. 22, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GAS TORCH Dale A. Line, Bartlesville, Okla.
Application September 16, 1944, Serial No. 554,448
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in gas torches adapted for operation by a source of either natural or artificial gas and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which may be easily and conveniently attached to a -conventional gas stove by removing the burner thereof, or to a gas hose or any other convenient outlet in the home or Work-shop.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a gas torch of this character of simple and practical construction, which is elclent and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure l is a side elevational view.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View, and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a coupling having a threaded end 6 adapted for threaded engagement with the burner connection of a feed pipe of a gas stove (not shown), the coupling also being formed inwardly of its threaded end with spiral tibs I by means of which a gas hose may be attached thereto. The other end of the coupling is formed with an enlargement 8 having at sides adapted for engagement by a wrench to apply or remove the coupling, the enlargement being internally threaded for threadedly receiving an extension 9 on a nut IIJ, the nut also being internally threaded for threadedly receiving one end of a tube II, the tube being externally threaded for threaded engagement with one end of a conventional form of hickey I2 having open sides. The tube I I is adjusted by means of a ange I 3 having attened sides for receiving a wrench.
A nipple I4 is threaded in the outer end of the tube II and is formed with a restricted orifice I5 from which gas is discharged for mixing with air entering the open sides of the hickey.
Threadedly attached to the other end of the hickey I'2 is a tube I6 having a burner head indicated generally at il suitably secured at its upper end. The head Il includes a tubular portion I8 externally threaded at each end for threaded engagement with inner and outer caps I9 and 20, the cap I9 being secured to the tube I6 and the cap 20 having a burner opening 2I therein. The caps I9 and 2D are formed with circumferentially spaced ribs on the outer surfaces thereof to facilitate the threading engagement thereof with the tube I8. The tube I8 is formed with a plurality of vent openings 23 in the sides thereof and the tube is also formed on its outer surfaces with circumferentially spaced ribs 24,
It is believed that the details of construction and manner of use of the device Will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
In a gas torch, a tube, means attached to one end of the tube and adapted for supplying air and gas thereto in a mixture, and a burner head on the other end of the tube comprising a tubular portion larger in diameter than said tube and into which said other end of the tube extends part way in spaced detached relation thereto, and end caps on said portion one of which is tted tightly around and secured to the tube and closes the bottom of said head, the other cap having a single central burner opening therein concentric to said portion.
