GAS BURNER.
Application filed March 3, 1927- Serial No. 172,384.
This invention relates to a gas burner, one of the objects being to provide a simple and compact device of this character adapted to be adjusted readily so as to adapt the burner for use in connection with artificial, natural or mixed gases, means being employed whereby after an adjustment, the parts can be firmly held so as to insure maintenance of the desired mixture of air and gas.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the base of the burner in the form of a screw plug having an annular collar 2. there being a tubular nozzle 3 integral with this plug and provided, close to the collar 2 with diametrically opposed air inlet ports 1. The tubular stem 3 is exteriorly screw threaded as shown at 5, the threads extending to the port 4 and for a desired distance along the stem. Engaging the threads 5 is a nut 6 having a skirt 7 adapted to partly or entirely close the ports 4. when the nut is projected in one direction along the threaded portion. A look nut 8 is mounted on the stem and is designed to engage the nut 6 so as to hold it against displacement after being adjusted. A small orifice 9 is provided in the plug 1 between the ends thereof and a passage 10 tapers to "ward this orifice from the lower or outer been adjusted it can be held securely in such '65 position by means of a lock nut 8.

A burner including a tubular base exteriorly screw threaded'having an angular head, said base constituting a screw plug, there being an orifice opening through the base, atubular nozzle integral with the base, said nozzle having an enlarged exteriorly screw threaded portion extending from the base toward the center of the nozzle, there being opposed air inlet ports in the threaded portion of the nozzle extending to the base, a nut slidahle over the nozzle into engagement with the enlarged threaded portion thereof, said nut having a skirt movable to partly or entirely cover the air inlet port, and a lock nut slidable over the nozzle into engagement with the enlarged threaded portion thereof.
